A BOY has tragically died after being struck down by a funfair ride while trying to retrieve a fallen flip-flop. Emergency services rushed to the fairground in Muriaé, Brazil, on Sunday night, after receiving reports of the tragic accident. Firefighters said the boy had told fairground workers he had lost his shoe before reaching for it himself and getting fatally hit by the ride, known as the Space Loop. His school said in a message, alongside a black ribboned photo: “It was with deep sadness that we received the news about the death of our pupil Daniel. “His departure leaves a deep hole in our hearts. “May your memories inspire us and may you find peace. Most read in The Sun “Our thoughts are with Daniel’s family and friends at this difficult time. We share their pain.” In another message the school said its thoughts were with the family and friends following the death of their “dear student”. “May God welcome him with open arms and comfort the hearts of all who are suffering from this painful loss. “We are all deeply shaken.” A spokesman for the local council’s education department said: “In this moment of great pain our thoughts are with Daniel’s family, friends, school colleagues and the whole school community. “May all those who got the opportunity to know Daniel be left with good memories of him.” Three days of mourning have been declared in Barao de Monte Alto, which has a population of around 5,000. It follows another incident on Saturday which saw seven children injured after a fairground ride collapsed in El Callao, Venezuela. Horrifying footage captures a chaotic scene of panic after the flying chairs gave way halfway through the ride. Preliminary enquiries pointed to a failure in the rotating shaft or in the metal base, causing to it detach and launch the children towards the ground. The park was immediately closed following the accident and an investigation was launched. Comment now
