While the series is bringing another Reagan to establish themselves in Danny's world, the reunion that Blue Bloods viewers are looking for on Boston Blue when it comes to Jamie has nothing to do with his brother. Unfortunately, it may not be possible for Boston Blue season 2 to achieve. Blue Bloods' Jamie Is Confirmed To Appear In Boston Blue Season 2 As Boston Blue season 2's season premiere grows closer, more details about what's to come for the season have come to light, including the fact that Estes will be joining the series to reprise his role as Jamie. While Jamie was always the most likely Reagan to find himself on Boston Blue, when it didn't happen during Blue Bloods season 1, many were curious about the prospect of his return. As one of the central figures of the original series, Jamie's story as the youngest brother of the family when through several different phases over Blue Bloods' 14-season run. From a storytelling perspective, bringing Jamie into the fold of Boston Blue makes the most sense out of the other Reagan siblings. With the spinoff focusing on Danny as he adapts to a new chapter of his career in a new city, Jamie's place in Danny's life has always been a significant one. Bringing Jamie into Danny's new world in order to explore the brothers' relationship in a brand new way is exactly the type of bridge that Blue Bloods and Boston Blue viewers would be looking for between the two shows. Jamie will get to see Danny's evolution firsthand. At the same time, Jamie's return will remind viewers of the way Danny's life was when he was back in New York with the rest of the family, which could provide an interesting sense of perspective. With an update for Jamie, who ended Blue Bloods preparing for parenthood with his wife, Eddie (Vanessa Ray), so an update on his character feels like a prime opportunity on Boston Blue. Vanessa Ray Visited Boston Blue (But Not As Eddie) Although getting the chance to see Jamie on Boston Blue season 2 is going to be exciting in itself, many are likely to wonder what's happening within his family, specifically with his wife Eddie, who was a huge part of Blue Bloods. Earlier in the year as Boston Blue season 2 got started filming, Ray shared some photos and videos of a visit from the set that had some excited at the chance to see her character on the new spinoff series, hopeful she'd be reuniting with Estes and Wahlberg during their time working together on the newer CBS show. Unfortunately, Ray had to share that she wasn't going to be filming with the rest of her former Blue Bloods colleagues, but was simply visiting the Boston Blue set to visit. Ray wasn't in costume, and without any confirmation of her character's return to the franchise in the same way that the series did with Estes, it seems clear that she won't be a part of the upcoming season. Highlighting the absence of Eddie in Jamie's new storyline, it felt like a disappointment for fans of Blue Bloods who have been watching Boston Blue in hopes of cast returns. While Boston Blue has repeatedly demonstrated that the show is willing to accommodate cast returns and cameos with the rest of the Blue Bloods family, there is likely a cap on how many cast members they can manage to fit into the story within the scope of a season. Eddie may not be a priority for the Boston Blue story right now, but could definitely be someone to fall back on later. Why Jamie & Eddie's On-Screen Reunion Needs To Happen Although the Reagan family has been the foundation of the Blue Bloods franchise, the fact that Boston Blue revolves more around the next generation of Reagan’s and focuses on Danny specifically makes it more clear than ever that Jamie, and in conjunction Eddie, need to be involved in the story. Jamie's story doesn't make sense without Eddie at this point in the Blue Bloods universe. The pair spent seasons of the original series finding their way to each other, and their slow-burning romance was one of the biggest of the show's run. Once they were together, their relationship solidified. Jamie and Eddie's relationship is one of the defining storylines of the original story, and while the characters obviously exist without each other, the fact that they're a family unit of their own is a huge part of their characterization. Knowing that Jamie will be coming to Boston Blue on his own is a minor let down, but in the future, bringing Jamie and Eddie into the fold together makes the most sense for the franchise as a whole. As married parents, it doesn't entirely make sense for the pair not to be around together, especially in a family-occupied place. While Boston Blue doesn't need to revolve around the Reagan family in the same way that Blue Bloods did, the fact that the series is bringing back Jamie in any capacity makes it seem like Eddie, and an episode with the both of them involved, could be the logical next step to join in on the spinoff.
