Combining the high-octane action of James Bond with the investigative nature of Sherlock isn't easy, but Reacher absolutely nailed it, and continues to shine each season. While Reacher usually relies on different allies from season to season, one or two have popped up on multiple occasions to lend a hand. That said, the protagonist is a highly trained brute capable of killing small armies by himself while also being a fantastic detective, often working on loose bits of information to unravel an entire crime syndicate. Even though the quality of Reacher's best and worst seasons does fluctuate, there's a base level of consistency that ensures it's always, at the very least, extremely entertaining. Some storylines have better drama and characters, while others thrive more on their action or mystery. Either way, the series always delivers. It's no surprise then that Reacher was renewed for season 6 before season 5 has even gotten going, especially with the viewership numbers and reviews being so strong across the board. Add in the fact that it just launched a successful spinoff, and everything seems to be going right for Lee Child's beloved franchise. Reacher Is The Top Prime Video Series Right Now While there are plenty of other shows out there that could make a convincing argument for being Prime Video's best, Reacher currently deserves the top spot for a variety of reasons. It may not have a deep, overarching story like a lot of the competition, nor does it have the same multi-season character arcs that make certain heroes and villains so memorable. However, its strengths are some of the best on the market, one of which is Reacher's fight scenes. The choreography is perfect, successfully conveying mostly realistic fights, be it fist-to-fist, shootouts, or more creative conflicts, yet there is still a slight sense of surrealism involved to highlight that the protagonist is one-of-a-kind. His bag of tricks is the type that no normal person could possess, and even other action heroes simply don't size up. In addition, Reacher always manages to keep things fresh despite not being an anthology series, as the new cases, locations, and characters all bring something new to the table. Season 1 leaned into its thriller elements; season 2 was more action-packed, while season 3 somewhat blended the two. The fourth installment was more of a political espionage, showing the series still has license to get creative, and Reacher season 5 is updating its formula once again, with light horror elements set to make it the most unsettling outing yet. Add in the fact that Reacher comes back yearly with much quicker turnover than most other Prime Video shows, and there is simply no denying it's one of the platform's best. Still, there are some that match the quality and output, but they simply aren't getting views like Reacher, which has earned its spot on Prime Video's throne. Why Reacher Could Still Get Better In Future Seasons It's rare in the streaming era that we see projects last too long. Out of Prime Video's original shows, Bosch has the most seasons with seven, making it unclear how much longer Reacher will last. Fortunately, there's little reason to see it ending any time soon, and there's every chance it will continue to get better with its future seasons. Currently, there are over 30 Jack Reacher novels, and even excluding the ones adapted in the Tom Cruise movies, there is more than enough content for the series to last decades. Obviously, Alan Ritchson will eventually age out of the role, but he's still got plenty of outings left in him, and there's nothing stopping him from passing on the mantle down the line. With some incredible books still to adapt, Reacher's best season may still lie ahead, and so long as the views stay consistent and Ritchson remains committed to the role, the future looks bright. Each installment is also an opportunity to see how audiences react to the respective story, giving the writers an idea of what works and what doesn't. Therefore, season 5's performance may help Prime Video decide what book to base Reacher season 6 on, which could wind up being the best so far. If anything, it's a show that should only get better with age, and with Andrew Child now taking over the novels, we may even get a new direction that could be adapted in years to come. Knowing that Reacher is already sitting at the top of the mountain on Prime Video makes the fact that it could still evolve even more exciting, and when it's all said and done, it may end up cementing itself as one of the most influential streaming shows of all time.
