Bombay HC questions Police on Parth Pawar not being named as accused in Pune land deal case; seeks reply

File | Photo Credit: PTI The Bombay High Court has asked the Maharashtra Police to explain why Rajya Sabha MP and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar’s son Parth Pawar does not face charges as an accused in a case involving a parcel of land in Pune.Justice Madhav Jamdar passed an order on September 7, directing the Director General of Police to submit an affidavit. The Court heard an application for bail from Pune Tehsildar Suryakant Yewale.Mr. Yewale faces charges of misusing his office to facilitate a transaction. He stated in his application that he held no role in the case. The Bench adjourned the matter for a hearing on September 28.The Court noted that Ameida Enterprises LLP purchased 40 acres of land in Pune's Mundhwa area. The amount paid for the land was less than the value of the parcel. The police conducted an investigation and found the company had two directors — Parth Pawar and Digvijay Patil.The police named Mr. Patil as an accused, but did not mention Mr. Pawar. The Court recorded a submission on this difference. The submission stated that Mr. Pawar is the son of the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and wields influence.
