Bobbie Peels

13.5/20Updated August 13, 2026,first published October 27, 2025Inviting local boozer doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but keeps it spinning smoothly.People, we have a chip problem: the hand-cut fries at Bobbie Peels are so good you’ll be fighting your opposite to the final crumb. They’re just one example of food punching above its weight here.Other surprises include a vegan, gluten-free Sunday roast that actually tastes delicious; mussels made moreish in a simple white wine sauce; and zucchini mafaldine pasta with a lacy parmesan crisp perched on top. It’s pub grub meets bistro creativity. If the superlative selection of indie beer is to be expected, the approach to wine is a pleasant surprise. The list is dotted with hard-to-find gems, and on Wednesdays every bottle is 20 per cent off. Pubs are for the people, and owners Phil Gijsbers and Neil Mills clearly see themselves as custodians of a tradition they revere and feel confident to refresh.Best for: Neighbourhood comfort with a pinch of finesse.Good Food reviews are booked anonymously and paid independently.
