(BOA) to Barbadian athletes and teams who won medals at this year’s Commonwealth and Central American and Caribbean Games. Commenting on the presentations, BOA President Sandra Osborne said the Association was pleased to provide the performance incentives, noting that the athletes had delivered performances of which the entire country could be proud and demonstrated Barbados’ potential to achieve even greater success. “Since 2019, the BOA has awarded incentive allowances to Barbadian athletes who have performed with distinction by medalling at major regional and international multi-sport Games. In addition to our Athlete Funding Programme, it is another tangible way to support athletes with the substantial costs of elite training and competition,” Osborne stated. Competing concurrently across two continents under a single rallying cry, “One Island. Two Stages. We are Team Barbados”, athletes represented the country at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, and the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from July 24 to August 8, and came away with a combined total of 10 medals. At the Commonwealth Games, Sada Williams won Barbados’ sole medal, claiming silver in the women’s 400 metres. Team Barbados recorded a strong nine-medal performance at the 25th edition of the CAC Games, winning two gold, five silver and two bronze medals in the individual and team events over the 16 days of competition. Margot Prow won gold in the women’s squash singles, and, along with Meagan Best and Amanda Haywood, secured a team gold. Incentives are awarded on a tiered basis, and the amount is determined by factors such as the level of competition, the medal won, and whether the achievement was in an individual or team event. Disbursement of the incentive payments to the 13 celebrated athletes is already underway. (PR) Barbados Today Stay informed and engaged with our digital news platform.
