Blumhouse Atomic Monster Inks Short Film Development Deal with Horror Creator Heidi Wong

Blumhouse Atomic Monster revealed at New York Comic Con that it inked a deal with horror content creator Heidi Wong. Under the deal, Wong will create original horror shorts for the studio. “I guess I won’t give too much away about the plot, but I will say it’s inspired by Eastern mythology and folklore and I grew up in Asia, so it’s very close to me,” Wong said when announcing the project alongside Jason Blum at the Blumfest panel at New York Comic Con Friday. “And to have Blumhouse’s support really means so, so much.” Wong, who was featured on Time’s 2025 100 Creators List and Forbes 30 Under 30, is best known for telling and reenacting stories on social media based on horror movies. She also shares recommendations and ratings for films in the genre. Wong’s love of horror goes back to her childhood, when she taught herself English by reading scary stories. Popular on Variety Wong, known as “The Horror Queen” to her fans, has a global fanbase of over 8 million followers. She’s helped create content for Netflix, Sony, 20th Century Studios, Paramount Pictures, Universal and AMC. Before she posted her first storytelling TikTok in 2020, Wong earned six consecutive national art competition wins and received nominations for the Pushcart Prize and Dylan Thomas Prize for her poetry collection “Turning to Wallpaper.” Wong recently completed her Master of Fine Arts in Poetry from New York University. Blumhouse Atomic Monster is one of the most productive horror studios in Hollywood. It was behind two of the biggest genre hits of 2026: “Obsession” and “The Backrooms.” This year, Blumhouse released “SoulM8ate,” “The Uprising,” “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy,” “Insidious: Out of the Further,” and most recently, “Other Mommy.” Upcoming releases from the studio include “Play House,” Curry Barker’s “Anything But Ghosts,” “The Exorcist: Martyrs,” a “Paranormal Activity” sequel and a “Blair Witch Project” reboot.
