Blue Jays Outright Daz Cameron

Outfielder Daz Cameron has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A, per his MLB.com transactions log. The Blue Jays designated him for assignment on Tuesday. Cameron has been outrighted before, so he can reject the assignment and choose free agency. He’ll most likely stick with Buffalo and wait for another chance with the big-league club. Cameron has spent the majority of the season with Toronto’s top minor league affiliate since coming back to the States. A series of moves when rosters expanded earlier this week included Cameron losing his roster spot. Reliever Joe Mantiply came off the 60-day IL, necessitating a 40-man roster move. Toronto activated infielders Sean Keys and Josh Smith to fill out the position player group. Cameron came to the Toronto organization on a minor league deal in early July. He had his contract selected in mid-August when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went down with a concussion. Cameron went 5-for-24 in eight games with the club. He struck out seven times and didn’t draw a walk. Cameron played an inning in center field. The rest of his playing time came in left field. The 29-year-old Cameron opened the year in Korea with the Doosan Bears. He hit .287 with nine homers and nine steals during his time in KBO. Notably, Cameron only struck out 16.9% of the time in 75 games with the Bears. Making contact has typically been the biggest challenge for the veteran outfielder. Cameron was putting the ball in play at a solid clip at Triple-A before his promotion. He had a 19.4% strikeout rate in 23 games with Buffalo.
