Jacksepticeye gave the first details on highly anticipated animated film Image: FromSoftware/Sony Interactive Entertainment While Bloodborne may remain trapped in PlayStation 4 exclusivity jail until the end of time, at least its movie adaptation is making progress. YouTuber Seán “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin is producing the R-rated animated film alongside PlayStation Productions and Lyrical Animation. In an interview with IGN, McLoughlin shared the latest on the project, which was announced at CinemaCon in April. “Things are obviously much more along the pipeline than they were back then,” McLoughlin said. “I personally would love to just say everything as a fan of this thing, but then there’s no expectation, or there’s no fun in the process. So we definitely have a lot more stuff mapped out where we’re going with the story, and there are people in place to make this thing happen.” While he didn’t specify who is attached to the project, he added that, “Hopefully, sooner than later, we can have announcements where we talk about who’s involved and where it’s going, and little teases of the story and where we’re at with that.” Do we know any concrete story details about the Bloodborne movie? Despite being cagey about the specifics, McLoughlin made it clear that he wants to stay true to Bloodborne’s world and setting. “I am proud of the work I’ve been doing on it," he said. "I think it’s such an interesting job to have, and for me, it’s fun to do. It can be really stressful as well at the same time, because you’re taking on such a monumental IP. And I am just there to be like, ‘Hey, we need this pinprick perfect.’ Will we ever get something perfect? I don’t know. It’s probably impossible to get everyone’s expectations into one central pillar, but as someone who’s brought on to do this job, I’m right in the position where I need to be, and we’re poised to have something really cool.” He also implied that they may not be doing a one-to-one recreation of the game’s story, and cited some recent adaptations that have taken a lot of creative liberties. “At the end of the day, it’s all ‘Why are we adapting it?’” McLoughlin said. “Whenever there’s leeway in the story, and there’s latitude to tell different tales within universes, I think that’s always most interesting. I don’t really ever want to take an IP and just redo the game story. I think we’ve seen that happen so many times. I’m not going to name names of things, but people already have adaptations in their brains, but it just never really works out. Something like Fallout or Resident Evil are really good examples recently.” Zach Cregger clearly made the right call in avoiding a direct adaptation with Resident Evil, as the movie became the best-received and highest-grossing film adaptation in series history. The Fallout TV show took a similar approach. While it’s a canonical entry in the series, it follows new characters that weren’t featured in the games. Considering how much of Bloodborne’s story is derived from vague item descriptions and subtext, there’s a lot of room to fill in the details of the world. Are there other upcoming adaptations of FromSoftware games? Two of FromSoftware’s other games, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring, were recently picked up for adaptation. Sekiro: No Defeat is an anime series produced by Qzil.la and directed by Kenichi Kutsuna. A theatrical cut of the show opened in Japanese theaters on Sept. 4, and the eight-episode series will make its global streaming debut on Crunchyroll in January 2027. A24 is producing an Elden Ring film from director Alex Garland (Civil War, Annihilation). Early reports suggest it will be A24’s most expensive picture ever, with a $200 million budget. Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, and Nick Offerman are starring in undisclosed roles. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 3, 2028.
