Blood Of Dawnwalker Devs Left A "Do Not Use" Asset In Its Prologue

Blood Of Dawnwalker Players Ask For Crucial Mistake To Be Left In The Game Rebel Wolves Published Sep 4, 2026, 8:27 AM EDT Josh Coulson is an editor at TheGamer covering breaking news on everything from colorful platformers to the latest Lego sets. A big, bright red one that’s so glaringly obvious, it’s kind of hard to gauge how exactly no one spotted it before the game was released. It’s an asset that shouldn’t have made it into the game in the first place, even before Blood of Dawnwalker launched. How do we know that? Well, it’s quite literally plastered all over it. The offending item is a bright red tube-shaped asset with the words “Do not use this asset!” typed on it multiple times. It seems somebody did use the asset, and within hours of the game’s release, someone found it and shared the evidence on the r/DawnwalkerOfficial subreddit. The asset is in a mine and can be found during Dawnwalker’s prologue. Based on its shape, I’m assuming a developer was meant to go in there and replace it with a log, although since the asset wasn’t meant to be used at all, either the person who broke the rules forgot about it, or whoever was meant to place a log there didn’t realize they’d need to. Dawnwalker Players Want The Asset To Stay There Forever Rebel Wolves Whatever happened, there’s now a long red tube that doesn’t really fit the 14th century Europe aesthetic Blood of Dawnwalker tries to capture. It breaks the immersion somewhat, but despite that, fans of the game are hopeful Rebel Wolves leaves it in. The replies to the Reddit post above are filled with players requesting that the issue not be fixed, and that the forbidden asset remain a part of the game forever. Whether that happens or not will depend on Rebel Wolves’ sense of humor. Someone at the studio might be getting a tongue lashing as we speak for not only leaving a bright red asset in the final release, but using it in the first place when it wasn’t supposed to. There are also more casual players to consider, not to mention people who play this game years from now, who might not be as amused by the mistake when they find something that might give them the impression the game is poorly made so early on. Blood of Dawnwalker has encountered some PC optimization issues during its first couple of days on the market. Rebel Wolves has acknowledged that, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the offending asset mysteriously disappear when updates addressing those issues are eventually rolled out. Despite those early teething problems, the studio’s debut game has been a hit on Steam, peaking at more than 64,000 players. Big numbers for a single-player game, and that peak will likely be higher by the weekend.
