Bleary Eyed – “Wander”

Do people ever confuse the young Philadelphia shoegaze crew Bleary Eyed for the post-Oasis Liam Gallagher band Beady Eye, or is that just me? For their entire existence, I kept thinking of Beady Eye as "Bleary Eye," and now there's a Bleary Eyed. This might be what finally pushes me into the "OK grandpa, let's get you to bed" phase of my life. The two bands don't even look or sound anything like each other. It's just my own brain dissolving in real time.Bleary Eyed, who are not Beady Eye, released their album Easy last year, and they've got tours with Glitterer and Swervedriver coming up. Today, they share a mechanized lo-fi single called "Wander." I would not call this a shoegaze song. It's more like someone found a way to fuse chillwave with post-hardcore and to make it sound evil. Here's what the band says about it:This song is quite literally about a long drive from NYC to Atlanta for a trip down to SXSW. The drive was long overnight and there was a memory of nodding off at the wheel for a split second and pulling off. The feeling of being fatigued and sleep-deprived but excited to perform and see friends. The second half of the song is more vague and about just that listless feeling one can feel whether on a long trip, on a tour or in a bar, feeling so far away from home but still connected.
