BJP to launch protests in Keralam to counter Congress protests demanding resignation of Gyanesh Kumar

A core committee meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Thursday decided to launch protests in Keralam to counter the ongoing protests of the Congress-led Opposition demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged discrepancies in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voters’ lists.Speaking to the media after the meeting, BJP State vice-president M.T. Ramesh demanded Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan to resign from his post if he was sincere to the cause of the protest in Delhi that he took part in.“Why are they selectively questioning the election results in various States after the SIR? If all the election results are questionable according to them, does it not apply to the Assembly election results in Kerala? The BJP will organise protests both inside and outside the Assembly demanding the resignation of the CM as well as the entire government,” he said.Mr. Ramesh said the BJP aimed to bring to the people the real facts behind the protests. He accused the Congress of attempting to weaken the country’s democratic institutions through such protests.“The Congress has been attacking the Election Commission, the courts, and all constitutional bodies with an aim to destabilise the government. Forces from outside the country are aiding all such protests, be it against the Citizenship Amendment Act or the protest against the farm laws. Our attempt is not to defend Gyanesh Kumar as an individual, but the constitutional body which is under attack,” he said. The BJP is now preparing a road map for the next three years with an aim to build on the gains in the recent elections in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in in 2029, he said. The party will also organise protests across the State accusing the UDF government of failing to live up to its promises, four months into its tenure.“What we are witnessing now is a repetition of the LDF government’s failures over the past ten years under Pinarayi Vijayan. The government led by V.D. Satheesan is now implementing each of the things they used to blame the previous government for, be it in the appointment of an Administrative Reforms Commission or a special representative of the State in Delhi,” said Mr. Ramesh.
