Bittu Tabahi clears 585 kg waste in 4 hours from Yamuna in Delhi cleanup drive

On the first day of the three-day drive, he and a group of volunteers removed 585 kg of waste from the riverbank.Bittu, who shot to prominence for his cleanup drives, began the Yamuna campaign on September 20, observed as World Cleanup Day. Videos from the drive show him and volunteers working along the riverbank, collecting plastic, flowers, garlands and other waste left behind.The cleanup took around four and a half hours, Bittu said. He shared the tally on Instagram, writing, “20 September, World Cleanup Day. Four and a half hours of cleaning on the banks of the Yamuna, and together removed 585 kg of garbage.”The effort also brought some residents to the cleanup site. Bittu said people from the surrounding area joined the volunteers and helped clear the stretch. “Flowers, garlands, worship items, plastic were all scattered on the pier. The people around also came, helped, and the whole shore was cleared. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who came,” he wrote.He also acknowledged Philip Morris for supporting his work and said Gurugram’s Khedki Daula would be his next stop. Many also praised Bittu for continuing to take his cleanup efforts to new places.His work has attracted attention from prominent figures too. Industrialist Anand Mahindra shared his river-cleaning efforts on X, giving the campaign another boost online.With the Yamuna drive set to continue for two more days, Bittu’s latest campaign is now bringing his hands-on approach to one of the capital’s most prominent and polluted waterways.The Delhi drive comes at a time when Bittu’s cleanup work has taken on a much larger profile. His efforts to restore the Ajnar River earned him international attention and even a job offer from Boyan Slat, founder and CEO of Dutch environmental organisation The Ocean Cleanup.Bittu Tabahi has previously spoken about wanting to travel across different parts of India and encouraged people to take cleanliness more seriously.
