A month ago, I owned three vacuums: a traditional upright one, a robot model, and a handheld—each serving its own purpose. But thanks to the Bissell PowerClean DualBrush, I’m now a one-vaccum girl. Since coming into my life, it’s replaced all my other devices, and completely overhauled my cleaning routine.I’d long been intrigued by cordless vacuums—their light footprints, versatility, and manoeuvrability were all attractive draws. But I’d never owned one until the Bissell PowerClean DualBrush. At $359, it’s a mid-range stick vacuum that comes with three interchangeable attachments, a combination dusting brush/crevice tool, a fur-specific upholstery tool, and the traditional floor brush. I could already picture how much easier cleaning would be without having to wrestle my bulky, 15-pound upright vacuum out of the closet every time a mess appeared. I also appreciate its looks: Given the Bissell needs to be plugged in to charge and I live in a small apartment without a laundry room or similar space, keeping it out in the open is a necessity. I wouldn’t necessarily categorize it as a design object, but it’s sleek enough to tuck into a small corner without being a major eye sore.The setup was incredibly easy—it took less time to assemble than it did to carry the box up the two flights of stairs into my apartment. It comes with a wall mount, though it can also stand independently. There is an instruction manual, but it was intuitive enough that I didn’t need it. At max power, it runs for about 12 minutes before needing to be charged, admittedly not a very long time. However, this model includes Bissell’s AutoAdapt Power Boost, which dynamically increases/decreases suction as dirt is detected, averaging 25 to 40 minutes of use. When it needs a recharge, it takes about three hours to reach full battery.The bagless design can hold up to 0.4 liters of dirt and uses an easy-empty dirt cup—I can attest that it’s painless to dump debris. My favorite feature is the headlights, which help highlight fur, crumbs, and dust on the floor for a more effective clean. It was eye-opening to see just how much grime was actually beneath my feet on the daily; I can only imagine how much I was missing when vacuuming before.However, the pièce de résistance might just be the FurFinder Upholstery Tool. Pet or not, the suction and brushes make it extremely easy to lift debris of all kinds from couches and other upholstered furniture.The VerdictAfter a few weeks of testing, I can confidently say that the Bissell PowerClean DualBrush lived up to my expectations and more. I found it nearly effortless to use, extremely effective in picking up all types of debris, and easily adjustable from one use to the next.Before owning the vacuum, I used to let my robot vacuum take a first pass at the floors, then would follow up with the standup vacuum to pick up whatever was left. It seems nearly nonsensical now, but it was the fastest method I had to keep the floors clean. Once a week, I’d also get out my hand vacuum to clean my upholstered furniture and usually needed to use a pet roller too since the suction rarely picked up mine or my sister’s cats’ hair, who regularly visit my apartment.Now, my cleaning routine is infinitely easier and significantly more effective. Because of how small and light the Bissell vacuum is, I find myself doing more regular quick runs rather than weekly deep cleans—this alone saves so much time. The upholstery attachment makes cleaning my couch a breeze, and I find the suction to be pristine, whether used on soft furnishings, the carpet, or the floor. It’s a solid choice at a fair price and its versatility makes it an effective all-in-one tool.
