BioWare Fans Are Now Petitioning To Save Anthem, Not Just Mass Effect

You can reach them at James.t@thegamer.com With #SaveMassEffect going viral and reaching an impressive 280,000 signatures, it was hardly surprising that Dragon Age fans wanted in on the action, hammering home how short-sighted EA's decision to close BioWare really was. But what is surprising is that there's a new Anthem petition, and it has somehow surpassed #SaveDragonAge. At the time of writing, "Save Mass Effect and Dragon Age — EA, Let BioWare's Legacy Live On!" has 3,433 signatures, whereas "Bring Back Anthem! Give this game a second chance" has 4,424. It's not the first petition to try and resurrect the shambling corpse of BioWare's most infamous game, but now that BioWare fans are rallying to save the studio—or at least, its most iconic franchises—Anthem fans are back to plead their case. Anthem Fans Want In On The Action "To Electronic Arts: a large portion of gamers think Anthem deserved better," organizer Big BusterSword said. "And its community deserves to be heard. Despite its troubled launch, Anthem delivered something special. Its incredible flight mechanics, the Javelin combat, beautiful world, and cooperative gameplay offered an experience that many gamers still haven't found elsewhere. Many still think about and want to play this game again. "We are calling on Electronic Arts to consider bringing Anthem back, whether through restored official servers, an offline edition, or a community-supported solution that allows players to keep the game alive," they continue. "We are willing to fix the game and make it exactly what we all envisioned it could be. This petition isn’t about pretending Anthem was perfect. It’s about recognizing its potential, preserving gaming history, and showing publishers that players still care about the games they’ve invested in. Our first goal is 1,000 signatures, with the hope of building a much larger movement." There isn't a catchy hashtag to latch onto with this petition, but with Anthem fans now planting their flags in the dirt in the hopes of reviving yet another BioWare franchise, the pressure is mounting. Though I will say, it's a little funny to see Anthem join Dragon Age and Mass Effect with a petition, considering it's the first domino to fall in the decline of BioWare. While Andromeda was the first real stumble, Anthem was the cause. It pulled veteran talent away from Mass Effect and forced Dragon Age 4 to be rebooted into a live-service game, leading to the troubled development of what would become The Veilguard. That's not to say Anthem should be left completely unplayable. It's still a vital part of gaming history, and all works of art should be preserved and made available, especially to those who paid for it. But there's definitely some irony to a Mass Effect petition inciting a similar Anthem campaign, considering it's the game that completely tore apart the idea of 'BioWare Magic.'
