Billie Eilish Made a More Intense Version of Her Cult-Favorite Perfume (Exclusive)

It’s her baby. “It’s what started all of this, so I feel very attached to it,” she told me then. It’s a smooth, ambery vanilla that’s very romantic. Sexy, even. I wear it on first dates constantly. So it wasn’t a shock when I discovered Billie’s next move was a reimagination of her first foray into scent: Eilish Intense.“The original Eilish fragrance brings back so many memories for me,” she tells Cosmo. “Eilish Intense feels really special because it’s keeping what everyone loved about the original but bringing it even deeper into that warm, comforting world.” The bright-gold bottle mimics the vintage bust design of the original, but they do have a few key differences when it comes to scent. Which brings me to... my full review. I got to test Eilish Intense ahead of launch, and I have some thoughts.The original Eilish Fragrance reviewNotes: Sugar, red berries, Mandarin orange, vanilla, cacao, spicy notes, rose, tonka bean, amber, musk, woody notesI’ve been wearing this vanilla perfume for years, and it’s one of my favorite compliment-getters. I’ve had a handful of Uber drivers ask me what I’m wearing or tell me that I made their car smell good. It’s a smooth, creamy vanilla that’s kind of nostalgic to me. It smells like something from my childhood, but it’s not juvenile at all. In fact, it’s one of the most sensual perfumes I own. The sugary hints at the top create a really pretty scent that doesn’t go foodie at all. It’s a sweet perfume that isn’t particularly “gourmand” in that it smells like a cake. It’s softly spun, almost powdery.That could be due in part to the amber in the base. Amber really is what adds warmth to this scent, and it’s also what makes it feel so different from Eilish Intense, which skips the amber in favor of a stronger tonka bean presence. It’s brighter and sweeter to me, but it feels more sophisticated, pulling in sugared florals in the top that you don’t get in the original. There’s still the musky dry down, the creamy vanilla, and a richness from spices and tonka bean. But the scent has more texture. There’s friction between the notes in a way that I don’t get with the original. This layered quality makes it feel more fancy. I loved catching whiffs of it throughout the day. Usually, “intense” flankers are heavy, and the richness feels only appropriate for cold weather or nighttime. But this played well at the office, likely because the richness is grounded by light berry and orange notes at the top.I’m not the only one at Cosmo HQ who fell in love with this perfume. Both style editor Aiyana Ishmael and senior lifestyle editor Christen Johnson, fans of the original Eilish, agreed after smelling Eilish Intense: They’d more likely wear the new flanker. They loved the added depth, but also that it still carried so much of the same DNA of the original. It doesn’t feel too different, like an entirely new scent entirely; rather, it really is just an upgraded version.Final thoughts: which is better?I don’t think you can go wrong with either bottle of Eilish, TBH. The original has a fluffy, powdery vanilla scent that’s cozy. It’s like throwing on a super soft blanket. Eilish Intense, though, is bright and sweet, a more floral and fruity interpretation in the top that dries down to that familiar woody vanilla base. It’s all about your preference. And if you want to just try it, grab the travel size for now to get a taste of it.Lucky for us, we’ll likely continue to get fragrances from Billie for a while. “I was completely obsessed with fragrance growing up, so being able to create my own fragrances still feels surreal,” she says.
