Bhopal labourer grows 12 cannabis plants at construction site, arrested

A labourer in Bhopal was arrested after police allegedly found 12 cannabis plants growing at the same under-construction building where he worked, with investigators suspecting he cultivated them to feed his own addiction.The incident came to light in the Katara Hills police station area after police received information that cannabis plants were being cultivated on the premises of a building under construction.Acting on the tip-off, a police team reached the site and found the plants growing there. On counting, police recovered 12 cannabis plants from the premises.According to police, the accused is originally from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh and was working as a labourer at a society's under-construction building in Bhopal. Investigators said he allegedly grew the plants because of his habit of consuming cannabis. He would reportedly tend to the plants alongside his regular work. Additional Police Commissioner Shailendra Singh Chauhan said the police had received information that the labourer had grown cannabis plants at the construction site. During the subsequent action, 12 plants were recovered and the accused was arrested.The police destroyed the recovered plants and registered a case against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He was subsequently produced before a court and sent to jail.
