The launch event was held at the MMA Management Centre in Chennai | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement Beyond Frontiers Trust (BFT), a non-profit organisation, was formally launched on Wednesday with the aim of improving access to specialist healthcare for tribal and underserved rural communities in Tamil Nadu.Founded by senior physician S.C. Chandilya, the Trust has been working in Jawadhu Hills, where geographical barriers and limited transport infrastructure often restrict access to specialised medical care. According to the organisation, it has conducted 18 free specialist medical camps, reaching around 4,000 people across 150 villages.Addressing the launch event, Dr. Chandilya said the Trust seeks to provide specialist diagnosis and treatment to underserved tribal and rural populations.The Trust focuses on screening and management of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disorders, polyarthritis, and asthma. It also conducts screening for cervical and breast cancers, while integrating health education on anaemia, nutrition, sanitation and hygiene with its outreach programmes.Speaking at the event, Shobana Kamineni, Promoter Director of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd. and Executive Chairperson of Apollo HealthCo Ltd., said improving healthcare equity requires ensuring access to quality specialist care irrespective of geography.Jayshree Muralidharan, former IAS officer and Chairperson of Srinivasan Services Trust, said sustained engagement with communities and continuity of care are essential for creating lasting improvements in health outcomes.Former IAS officer Swaran Singh, Chairman of TVS Cheema Scholarship Foundation, said long-term social impact depended on clear purpose and transparent systems.
