During the ninth anniversary of Dead By Daylight, Behaviour Interactive announced The Grimoire chapter, which includes a community-made killer and survivor. Everything in this chapter was decided by a community vote, including the characters' designs, powers, and even the mori animation. The chapter is finally arriving in the game on August 25, 2026, including The Judgement as the killer and Aurora as the survivor. While this is a community chapter, it's also going to be one of the hardest ones for you to learn since the killer is extremely complicated, but you'll do a lot better with these tips and builds. The Judgement's Unique Abilities, Explained The Judgement easily has one of the most convoluted and unintuitive powers in Dead By Daylight, and if you don't know exactly how it works, you won't be able to get value. While playing the killer, your main power is called the Divine Light, which is a beam of light that can be summoned in a wide range and sent in the direction of your preference. You can use this power by holding the "Use Power" button for your game (right-click for PC and LT/L2 for consoles by default). While holding, you'll see an arrow pointed at the ground followed by a pillar of light, and they'll both be connected with a line on the ground. You're controlling the former as you aim this power while the latter follows the arrow's path. Pressing the attack button during this will spawn a pillar of light at the location where you see it and send it straight in the direction of the arrow. After unleashing this pillar, it's non-lethal for a little bit, which prevents you from cheesing it by spawning it on top of the survivor. If you're visually hitting the survivor with your power but they don't take damage, the non-lethal phase of the pillar is likely the reason. A bit after activating the pillar, it turns lethal as it follows the path that you directed it in. If the pillar goes through a survivor during its lethal phase, it deals damage to them and applies the Heretic effect. It's also worth noting that the pillar goes through objects and travels a long distance, allowing long-range snipes on generators. Heretic Effect, Explained Whenever you hit a survivor with the pillar of light, they gain the Heretic effect, which you can see on their portrait at the bottom left. Survivors with Heretic on them gain a special effect on generator skill checks where the generator loses progress if they hit a basic skill check, and doesn't gain extra progress on hitting the great skill check. If you're an old DBD player, you might remember this as the initial effect of Hex: Ruin. If you down a survivor with Heretic on them, which will be most of the time if you're playing the killer correctly, you can exile them to a separate map, which counts as a hook state. Survivors must play a minigame on the Exile map, and they can be rescued at three specific shrines that are shown to other survivors. After you successfully exile the survivor, your pillar of light temporarily gains an additional effect where you can curve it for a bit even after activating it (it can only go in a straight line without this buff). Exiling a survivor not only saves you time but also strengthens your power with this buff, so you should always aim to do so. If you apply the Heretic effect on the survivor and stop chasing them, they can repent at one of the shrines on the map to start losing the effect. If you Exile multiple survivors at the same time, they all play the minigame on the same map and get rescued together whenever another survivor interacts with the required shrines. If you manage to exile all the survivors at the same time, they get eliminated immediately, much like you hooking all the survivors at once. The Judgement's Teachable Perks And Synergies As with every new character in Dead By Daylight, The Judgement also comes with three unique teachable perks called Celestial Witness, Hex: Under Your Thumb, and Lay Waste. Here's what these perks do and what you can combine them with to have a synergistic effect: Celestial Witness This perk lets you see the Obsession's aura for three seconds every 30 seconds if they're at least 40 meters away from you. If they're closer, the farthest survivor gains the Obsession instead. This can be a decent information perk, especially on killers who can teleport. You can also combine it with these perks: Nemesis (Oni) This perk has an effect where you see the Obsession's aura whenever they gain Obsession, which lets you see the survivor's aura even when the secondary effect of Celestial Witness triggers. Lethal Pursuer (Nemesis) This perk increases all your aura readings by two seconds, letting you see the Obsession for longer every 30 seconds. Hex: Under Your Thumb This hex spawns after you hook the first survivor, and it essentially counters speed exhaustion perks like Sprint Burst or Lithe. Whenever a survivor gets any haste within 32 meters of you, you get alerted. Moreover, survivors can't get more than 15 percent Haste until this perk exists. Hex: Thrill Of The Hunt (General Perk) Survivors will try to cleanse Under Your Thumb as soon as they see it since its effect is quite strong, and Thrill can help you slow them down a bit. Rapid Brutality (Xenomorph) Since survivors can't get a lot of Haste during chase, you being faster every time you hit them lets you close the distance even more easily. Lay Waste When you kick a generator with this perk, it regresses it two percent faster for each charge it has, which makes it phenomenal if the generator is nearly complete, though it only beats Call Of Brine if the generator has more than 75 percent progress. Here are some good synergies with it: Dragon's Grip (Blight) If a generator is progressed quite a lot, survivors will try to stop the regression as soon as possible, which will give them the Exposed effect from this perk and give you an easy down. Eruption (Nemesis) Since you'll be kicking generators for Lay Waste, applying Eruption on them for further regression can be quite helpful. While it might seem like Call Of Brine is a good perk to use with Lay Waste, it's not that good because of diminishing returns. The Judgement's Aura Reading Build If you understand The Judgement's power in Dead By Daylight, you might already understand how much this killer can benefit from aura reading. You can send your pillars across the map in most of the realms, and if you can constantly see the survivors, you can get various free hits and downs with this build. If you have it on, it's recommended not to hyperfocus on one chase and constantly keep a look around for easier hits instead. Here are the perks you'll use in it: Perk Description Lethal Pursuer (Nemesis) This perk lets you see the survivors at the start of the game and also increase all your aura readings by two seconds. Since your power is ready from the start, you can already start getting free hits on survivors who don't expect it. Gearhead (Deathslinger) When you damage a survivor, this perk lets you see other survivors when they hit a basic skill check on generators, giving you all the information in the world. A Nurse's Calling (Nurse) When you constantly snipe survivors with your power, there's a high chance that the other survivors will try to pick them up before you get there. That's where this perk helps you identify their locations. I'm All Ears (Ghostface) You see the survivor after they fast vault anything around you with this perk, which helps you hit them in chase when they're close, countering one of the biggest weaknesses for this killer. You can combine this build with Improvised Detonators add-on to get some generator regression. The second add-on choice is flexible, but Blindfold of the Devoted is also quite decent. If you don't like I'm All Ears due to its cooldown, you can use Predator or Celestial Witness instead. The Judgement's Gen Pressure Build While The Judgement undoubtedly benefits from aura reading the most, sometimes you might just want to protect your generators instead since survivors can repair them quite fast even under constant pressure. The gen regression build on this killer is unique since most conventional perks don't work for them. This is mainly because they don't hook survivors, which is the trigger for most of these perks. Hence, here are the best generator perks for The Judgement: Perk Description Call Of Brine (Onryo) Whenever you kick a generator, this perk regresses it 50 percent faster than normal, which can be great for this killer. Eruption (Nemesis) Since you'll be kicking generators with Call Of Brine, having Eruption on top of it gives you free regression when you down a survivor. Oppression (Twins) This perk will give survivors a difficult skill check when you kick a generator, possibly giving you information on the other generators that they're working on. Hex: Hive Mind (First) Finally, this perk will let you have a better hold of your game since you'll know which generators are being worked on. Blindfold of the Devoted and Eyes of Gerhardt are the best add-ons with this build since it lacks information and aura reading. The Judgement's Hex Build Hex builds are already one of the strongest builds in DBD at the moment, even after the nerf to Thrill of the Hunt. This build gets even more value on The Judgement since they can easily snipe all the totems on the map, taking survivors off them and further increasing the slowdown. Perk Description Hex: Ruin (Hag) Whenever the survivors leave a generator unfinished, this perk automatically starts regressing it, making it a crucial part of this build. Hex: Hive Mind (First) With this perk, you can see the generators that the survivors are working on after the first hook, giving you the information on where to snipe, which gets them off the generators and starts your ruin regression. Hex: Undying (Blight) This perk essentially gives you a second chance since the first time a survivor cleanses a totem, it'll always be undying and you'll still have all the other perks. Hex: Thrill Of The Hunt (General Perk) To finish this build off, you'll need Thrill Of The Hunt since it massively reduces the speed at which survivors cleanse the totems. If you don't want to defend your totems with the killer's power, you can also bring Hex: Pentimento instead of Thrill. The Judgement's Best Overall Build So far, we've told you about The Judgement's build in a specific niche. However, if you're planning to play the killer a lot, you'd want a good balance of both information and generator regression to win your games. Thankfully, there's a simple build to serve this purpose including the following perks: Call Of Brine Gearhead Eruption Lethal Pursuer With these perks, you start the match knowing where every survivor spawns and starting a chase early. As you hit and down survivors, you'll know which generator you need to regress, applying both Call Of Brine and Eruption. Overall, you'll have constant information across the map while also pressuring survivors. Blindfold and Magnetized Manacles are the best add-ons for this build as long as you don't try to tunnel out one survivor.
