Benson Boone Works Out (and Backflips) in Jeans, Naturally

The crooner, who’s currently on a worldwide tour, posted two gym mirror selfies showing him at the gym in dungarees.Kevin Mazur/Getty ImagesWho the hell wears jeans to exercise? Quite a few people actually. Robert F. Kennedy’s been known to bang out a few (poorly done) pull-ups on occasion, and a cohort of fitness influencers have become famous for the sartorial choice while hitting their squat PRs. The latest jean-wearing gym goer is Benson Boone of backflipping and song-belting fame.Boone, who’s currently on his Wanted Man tour, posted a photo dump on Instagram today, showing off not one but two gym mirror selfies of himself in jeans. And they’re not even the same jeans! That means on two separate occasions, Boone decided to get a lift in and likely did so in whatever he was already wearing that day. Kevin Mazur/Getty ImagesBoone is famously a very athletic man, often showcasing his jacked physique and impressive backflipping skills (an acrobatic feat he learned from his father). In an interview with GQ last year, the former high school competitive diver said he doesn’t have a strict workout plan—instead he just does whatever his friend tells him to do at the gym. Did that advice include wearing jeans? Probably not. And will wearing jeans give you a six-pack and less-than-10% body fat? Also probably not. But jeans in the gym have become a way to signal just how dedicated you are to getting after it, no matter what. “At most gyms, the coolest people are the postmen and plumbers getting it in on their lunch breaks,” says Brandon Martinez, who spoke to GQ about the trend last year. For a performer like Boone, the choice may also serve another purpose. Earlier this year, Lenny Kravitz told Men's Health that he works out in leather and denim because 1) it allows him to go to the gym whenever he has a free moment and 2) those are the clothes he wears onstage and he wants to be comfortable performing in them. Perhaps Boone is taking a tip from one of the greats. Judging from the impressive backflips he's banked this tour, he's very comfortable in denim. Not a subscriber?
