Bengaluru metro’s Purple line trains to slow down to 40 kmph between Benniganahalli, Baiyappanahalli

MURALI KUMAR Metro trains on the Purple Line will temporarily operate at a reduced speed between Benniganahalli and Baiyappanahalli stations as the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) carries out planned maintenance of an Open Web Girder (OWG) on the stretch.According to a release, a specialised team under technical supervision is conducting periodic inspections of the girder and undertaking necessary maintenance work. As an additional safety measure, trains will be restricted to a maximum speed of 40 kmph while crossing the girder, compared with the normally permitted speed of 65 kmph.The BMRCL said that the temporary speed restriction is a standard railway safety practice during maintenance and technical monitoring activities. However, the metro services on the Purple Line will continue to operate normally, with only a marginal impact on overall journey time, it said.The maintenance work is expected to be completed by the second week of October 2026. Following completion, the speed restriction will be reviewed based on the outcome of the work and a technical assessment, the release stated.The BMRCL said it follows a preventive maintenance approach to ensure the continued safety and reliability of metro operations.
