Ben Johnson on Caleb Williams: We’ll see how bad it is tomorrow, go from there

Published September 20, 2026 04:24 PM In the immediate aftermath of Sunday’s loss to the Vikings, Bears head coach Ben Johnson told reporters he’s unsure of the severity of Caleb Williams’ hamstring injury. Williams went down in the fourth quarter while trying to scramble deep in Minnesota territory. He was escorted off the field by trainers before being carted to the locker room. “We’ll know tomorrow,” Johnson said of the severity of Williams’ injury. “He’s in good spirits. He’s a team player.” Johnson added he was a bit relieved the injury wasn’t worse based on what it looked like on the field. “I’m actually happy it’s nothing with the knee — that was my first inclination,” Johnson said. “But, a hamstring could be pretty damaging as well. So, we’ll see. We’ll see how bad it is tomorrow and we’ll go from there.” Williams was 15-of-26 for 138 yards with an interception at the time of his departure. He also rushed for 42 yards on five carries.
