Spoilers for Below ahead!Netflix's Below premiered on October 8, 2026, with all six episodes released at the same time, and all that's left to wonder now is what the plans are for season 2. The Canadian creature-feature Below stars Josh Hartnett, Mackenzie Davis, Charlie Heaton, and Natasha Henstridge, and is set in the seaside Newfoundland town of Snook's Arm. The people of Snook's Arm lead a hardscrabble and mundane life, exemplified by Calvin Penney (Hartnett), a cod fisherman whose livelihood is quickly drying up. When a sea creature arrives to terrorize the already downtrodden community, Calvin joins forces with marine researcher Fonda Howander (Mackenzie) to figure out what is really going on. Ever since a traumatic event in his youth, Calvin has feared what lurks below the water, and the sad decline of his later life has not necessarily endeared him to finding the good in others or in sea monsters. However, as Below eventually proves, there's always something more going on below the surface. Below just aired and currently has an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, though the scores are certain to change as more people get a chance to check out the Netflix original. While reviews for the series haven't been raving, the consensus seems to be that it's a strong monster mystery show with an ensemble of actors up to the task. The end of Below requires viewers to wonder about what happens next, not just in the show, but with the show. Below season 2 has a nice ring to it, but it's not entirely clear where the series stands at the moment. Netflix Hasn't Announced Plans For Below Season 2 Below was billed as a limited series, and at the moment, there's been no news about a second season of the show. However, it wouldn't be the first limited series that became a multi-season story. Netflix's own Beef was billed as a miniseries and now appears to be an anthology show. Jesse McKeown, showrunner and creator of Below, has gone on the record saying that the six episodes complete a full story, and any lingering questions are just the reality of how strange and weird life can be (via Time). According to McKeown, the "cliffhanger" ending, "...is not a cliffhanger, like, oh my God, what’s going to happen next? It’s what’s going to happen to us next." While that doesn't give a lot of hope to a second season, there's always the chance that McKeown and the cast get the itch to return to Snook's Arm at some point in the future. How Below's Ending Leaves The Story Open For Season 2 Credit: Netflix If the ending of Below isn't a traditional cliffhanger, it's certainly an ominous "dot, dot, dot," like a "The End?" title card you may see at the end of a cheesy '70s horror film. After saving the sea creature and stopping the Crocker's takeover of Snook's Arm (for now), Calvin and Wade (Heaton) get back to life. While on their fishing ship, the High Hopes, the music grows grim, and the camera turns to show that both men are looking at something with concern on their faces. The camera pivots to show multiple icebergs, like the one created by the sea creature, moving towards them in the distance. The suggestion is that global warming is driving even more of the monstrous cephalopods south. While Calvin and his family could protect one of these creatures, multiple could prove a much bigger problem. This could be a big hint at what's coming in a second season: more monsters. This could also just be an ominous ending, and an exclamation point on one of the show's major themes. Humans are changing their environment and causing major disturbances. In our world, there are falling ice shelves; in Below's world, those ice shelves harbor creatures who will defend themselves if necessary.
