Belkin might have your fix: it's releasing its first power banks with semi-solid-state batteries that reportedly last "up to" 3X longer than conventional models. The new UltraCharge Pro line has BoostSolid Cells that have a gel-style layer in addition to the usual liquid electrolyte, promising a longer-lasting design that's also noticeably slimmer. Belkin claims a five-year lifespan even if you completely drain the battery every two days, and less chance the battery will catch fire or lose performance in extreme temperatures. Belkin UltraCharge Pro Power Bank with BoostSolid Cell and Display The initial models aim at very different people. The 10,000mAh UltraCharge Pro Power Bank with BoostSolid Cell and Display is billed as 27 percent slimmer than rivals, and is meant to power laptops, tablets, and phones with up to 60W USB-C Power Delivery across two ports (27W if using both ports). The namesake display provides live battery life, charging, and temperature status. There's also a 22.5W USB-A port. You'll find 15W pass-through charging, and the bank itself has fast 40W USB-C recharging. The 5,000mAh UltraCharge Pro Slim Magnetic Power Bank with BoostSolid Cell, meanwhile, is said to be 40 percent thinner than competitors at about 8.8mm (0.35in), and can charge Qi2 devices like the Pixel 11 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro (as well as any phone with a compatible case) at up to 15W. Pass-through 7.5W wireless charging is also available. Belkin UltraCharge Pro with BoostSolid Cell price and release date They're not as expensive as you think Semi-solid-state batteries are costlier than the conventional kind, but they're still relatively affordable. Belkin sells the UltraCharge Pro Slim Magnetic Power Bank with BoostSolid Cell this month (September) for $70, while the UltraCharge Pro Power Bank with BoostSolid Cell and Display is available for $90. Belkin is betting that the longevity will make either model more attractive in the long run. You'll theoretically save money (and the environment) by replacing your external battery less frequently. The improved portability also makes it more likely that you'll take the battery with you. These aren't the first semi-solid-state USB-C power banks. Asian brands like Singapore's BMX have models on the market. Belkin is one of the first to bring the tech to North America, however, and its sheer size increases the chances that you'll find one in a store. These are the batteries you're most likely to buy when your phone is nearly dead at the airport.
