In the middle of the night, families in the local area were forced to flee their homes after a fire broke out just after 5.30pm yesterday evening. Holidaymakers at a local caravan site were woken to the sound of firefighters “hammering” on the doors as they were forced to evacuate. Crews successfully evacuated Coastguard Cottages, Mount Pleasant Farm and Cliff House Holiday Park alongside the 200 caravans at the holiday park in the dead of night. Those forced to leave their homes, including families, pensioners, and people with disabilities, were housed with villagers overnight and told not to return to their homes, Suffolk Fire and Rescue declared the inferno, which has burnt through 100 acres of heathland, a major incident “due to the size and complexity”.
