In about a month, Rappler will be holding Social Good Summit 2026, which will be all about upskilling people to survive and thrive amid artificial intelligence — the risks it poses, and the opportunities it presents. That’s why we’ve entitled the summit, WE, THE HUMANS: Reclaim Our Future. More than an event, it’s a resounding declaration for the need to put humans at the center of any technology, most especially generative AI. (READ: Scientists call for international body to oversee advanced AI) It’s also our biggest yearly fund-raising event. Proceeds will go to our investigative journalism and AI literacy initiatives. But we also want to ensure the people most vulnerable to AI threats and those most in need of skills and know-how to navigate the AI era are also in the room. So, this week, we’re launching MAKE ROOM, a way for individuals with more resources to sponsor a summit ticket for students, educators, community leaders, youth leaders, and student journalists. You can also sponsor a ticket for a specific person or beneficiary. If you want to leave it up to us, just let us know how many people you would want to sponsor and we’ll give the tickets to students, educators, community leaders, youth leaders, and student journalists we’ve worked with and supported. What’s in store for them at the summit? They get to attend two mini masterclasses (out of six options), each designed to give them new skills for navigating AI. The workshops cover vibe coding, data storytelling, personal safety and data protection, how to deal with AI-fueled disinformation, and more. The panel discussions will feature global expertise on AI and human rights, with speakers like Amnesty International secretary-general and former UN rapporteur Agnés Callamard, AI Singapore’s Leslie Teo, 2021 Nobel laureate and Rappler CEO Maria Ressa, Nobel Committee leaders Jorgen Watne Frydnes and Kristian Berg Harpviken, Forbes 30 Under 30 Lister and Empath CEO Steph Naval, actress and advocate Iza Calzado, and a pre-recorded conversation between Maria and historian and bestselling author Yuval Noah Harari. Attendees will thus get both an upskilling experience and exposure to new ideas about AI policy-making shaping the world. They’ll be taking part in one of the most urgent conversations of our time: how to protect human values, human creativity, and human communities from the threat of unregulated and abused AI. The summit will take place on November 21, a Saturday, at Shangri-La The Fort Manila in Taguig City. To sponsor a ticket for a specific person or beneficiary, you can buy the tickets from here, and input their names in the ticket holder field during the purchasing process. If you want us to be the one to choose the beneficiaries, just email us at socialgood@rappler.com. If you know someone who would be interested in this initiative, I hope you can forward them this email.
