BDA issues final notification to acquire 1,427 acres for Peripheral Ring Road-2

Land notified by the Bangalore Development Authority for the proposed Peripheral Ring Road project at Bylakere on the outskirts of Bengaluru. | Photo Credit: File photo The Peripheral Ring Road (PRR), which has been rebranded as the Bengaluru Business Corridor (BBC), is gathering pace, with the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) on Tuesday issuing a final notification to acquire 1,427 acres and 24.25 guntas of land on the city’s outskirts for the project.The fresh final notification covers land parcels required for PRR-2, while work on PRR-1, divided into four packages, is at different stages of implementation. The BDA had also floated tenders for the first package of PRR-1, which covers 19.5 km. The authority is yet to float tenders for the three other packages.The final notification issued on Tuesday covers six hoblis — Attibele, Jigani, Begur, Uttarahalli, Kengeri, and Dasanapura — under three taluks of Bengaluru Urban district, as per the BDA map. The notification covers land in 31 villages, as per the notification document.With this, after 21 years since the preliminary notification, the BDA inches closer to executing the two-decade-old project, which was planned to decongest Bengaluru city.Connects North and SouthA senior BDA officer deputed to oversee the land acquisition explained to The Hindu that the land to be acquired through the fresh final notification will be used for PRR-2, spanning 52.63 km. PRR-1 forms a semicircle, and PRR-2 forms another to complete the circular corridor.“The stretch coming up through this notification will connect Hosur Road and Mysore Road through a 33.45-km road and Magadi Road with Tumakuru Road through an 8.4-km stretch,” the officer explained.These two stretches will connect the Major Arterial Road (MAR), renamed as S.M. Krishna Road, passing through the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout (NPKL) in West Bengaluru. The MAR is currently open to traffic. The Hindu had earlier reported that the MAR will become part of PRR-2. Thus, the entire stretch, forming a semi-circle, will connect Hosur Road in the south to Tumakuru Road in the north.According to sources, a litigation issue involving about 40 acres of land remains to be resolved. A farmer opposing the acquisition said the legal battle would continue.However, a BDA official said the authority has offered an attractive compensation package with four options and is confident that all beneficiaries will come on board.
