BCCI elections, AGM on September 18; IPL Governing Council membership on agenda

The BCCI will hold its elections and AGM in Mumbai on September 18, with IPL Governing Council appointments at the centre. The main agenda of the meeting will be to select two representatives of the IPL governing council.In the notification sent to the members, the BCCI told them to select their representatives who should be included in the electoral roll for the elections. The deadline for the members to file the applications for their representatives will be on August 31. The release of the draft electoral roll will be on September 1 and the nominations can be filled on September 9 and 10, during the window of 11 am to 4 pm.The announcement list of the contesting candidates will be released on September 12, followed by the elections. The result will also be announced on September 18.The board will also be inducting one representative from the Indian Cricketers’ Association into the IPL. Another pointer on the agenda will be the appointment of BCCI’s representative(s) at the International Cricket Council (ICC). ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS TO GET MEMBERSHIP?The upcoming meeting will consider a proposal to grant associate membership to the Cricket Association Andaman & Nicobar, the organisation responsible for promoting the sport in the Union Territory. The body is currently not affiliated with the BCCI, and the discussion could mark the board's first formal move towards bringing cricket in the island territory under its umbrella.Spread across more than 800 islands and situated over 1,000 kilometres from mainland India between the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea, the archipelago presents a unique opportunity for the expansion of the game. The BCCI has circulated a notice to its member associations and will seek their views before taking a decision on the membership proposal. Should the application receive approval, the BCCI is expected to begin developing cricket infrastructure and organising matches in the islands, while extending support to help grow the sport. However, an immediate entry for an Andaman & Nicobar team into India's domestic competitions is unlikely.
