BBC TV chef closes Michelin-recommended restaurant in just hours after less than a year

TWO TV chefs have announced the closure of their popular restaurant after just one year. The location is set to host a “proper send-off” with its final Sunday roast service this weekend. The pair, who launched the King’s Cross eatery just over a year ago, announced the news in an Instagram post. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! “We wanted to give this place a proper send-off and anyone who knows us – know we don’t do things quietly,” the duo wrote. The statement went on to thank all the staff and customers of the Michelin-recommended restaurant. They also thanked Mare Street Market, where Island first opened in June 2025. The restaurant owners said the year had seen sold-out weekends and “more good nights than we can count”. Island’s menu focused on British produce and featured a range of organic meats, wild fish, and seasonal ingredients. Dishes include grilled shawarma prawns, steak tartare, seabass, mussels, and piri piri chicken. In the post, Tom and Brad confirmed that they will be opening a new restaurant soon, with no date or location announced just yet.
