BBC offers huge £250m contract for new travel provider despite cost cutting drive – and it doesn’t even include taxis

A BBC spokeswoman said: “We operate 24 hours a day around the world and travel costs are inevitable. Sign up for the TV newsletter Thank you! “So we have to find a way to meet our needs and offer value for money. “We have introduced cost control measures to reduce non-essential travel. “And we expect to spend less than the maximum estimated value of this five-year contract.” We told last month how the BBC have axed three major shows in a huge cost-cutting move. The channel has revealed that it has axed Blankety Blank, Celebrity Mastermind and Live at the Apollo in a major blow. The BBC revealed the decision as part of its cost-saving measures. Most read in TV One more series of both Celebrity Mastermind and Live At The Apollo will still air before they are officially shelved for good.
