A STAR of the BBC’s Great British Menu has been forced to face a sudden restaurant closure. The chef confirmed that his London eatery will cease trading after almost a decade. The stylish all-day establishment, based in King’s Cross’s Coal Drops Yard, offered a European menu of brunch, lunch and dinner. Vermuteria, which was inspired by “eateries and cafés found in Italy, France and Spain”, also boasted a wide array of vermouths. Anthony Demetre, who opened the restaurant in 2018 alongside designer, Michael Sodeau, confirmed news of the closure on social media. Penning the statement on Instagram on July 31, Anthony said that the decision to bring the restaurant’s life to an end is “devastating”. “After eight wonderful years at Coal Drops Yard, Vermuteria has had to close its doors for one final time. “We are devastated for our incredible staff, loyal customers, friends and supporters,” he explained.
