BBC drops first trailer for Celebrity Traitors and reminds everyone of amazing line-up

Claudia Winkleman was back in her full fringe glory as she asked for a ‘moment of silence’ from the stars. Familiar faces could be spotted sitting on the church pews, with Maya Jama, Michael Sheen, Bella Ramsay, Ross Kemp, Richard E Grant and more with their game faces on. The star-spangled line-up, which also includes Little Mix icon Leigh-Anne Pinnock, comedians Romesh Ranganathan, Joe Lycett, James Acaster and Rob Beckett, and actors Miranda Hart and Sharon Rooney, was revealed after they descended on Ardross Castle earlier this year to film the second season of the ratings juggernaut for the BBC. So far, the stars have managed to keep tight-lipped about their experience in the castle, including Richard, who was grilled on the One Show. He admitted he had called friend and former faithful Celia Imrie up to get her guidance on what to look out for. ‘I said, Celia, what is the thing that you can’t be prepared for? She said, “The cruelty of people who you instinctively want to trust”. ‘Like in a room like this and suddenly every single person suspects you. The BBC will be hoping to repeat that heady mix, which all came rolled into the single-man machine that was Alan Carr last year. This year’s 21 celebrities are of an astonishingly high calibre, star power-wise. The American fans of the show were flabbergasted when the cast was first announced, since their Traitors usually consist of reality stars and people adjacent to fame (Mama Kelce, Zac Efron’s brother). But it’s no surprise the BBC were able to lure such high-profile names to Scotland. There’s the sheer appeal of playing the game, plus the show has become a monster hit. 15.4million tuned in to last year’s finale – unheard-of numbers in the current linear viewing climate. With this impeccable line-up, there’s every possibility the second outing could trump that. Last year, Alan chose Neuroblastoma UK and ended up winning £87,500 for the organisation, which is dedicated to finding a cure for the aggressive childhood cancer. The second season will air this autumn, with ten hour-long episodes.
