BBC AXES three hit shows including legendary series that’s been on air 22 years as part of £100m cost cuts

THE BBC have AXED three major shows in a huge cost-cutting move. The channel has revealed that it has axed Blankety Blank, Celebrity Mastermind and Live at the Apollo in a major blow. The BBC confirmed that the three shows were chosen to be given the boot as part of its proposal to make up to £500million in savings over the next three years. They further revealed that further savings would be announced in due course – sparking rumours there are even more TV axings on the way. The show has made household names of a slew of stand-up comedians who have found their first brush with TV fame on the show. Blankety Blank was also hosted by The Chase favourite Bradley Walsh with Clive Myrie heading up Celebrity Mastermind. The civilian series of Mastermind will continue. Most read in TV 66-year-old Bradley revealed earlier this week that he had quit Blankety Blank – despite it having been axed anyway. He said on Monday: “I just don’t have the time, which is sad because I’ve loved Blankety Blank. “It’s been one of my favourite shows, and it’s been brilliant… It’s the most fun you can have in the studio, and I just cannot at the moment work on it. “I just have not got the time. I would normally go to studio October, but I’m all taken up in October and November, so I just haven’t time to do it. Maybe next year.” 1 comment1
