Batwara 1947 box office Day 8: Sunny Deol film hits new low, misses Rs 50-crore mark

Sunny Deol-starrer Batwara 1947 has entered its second week with its box office momentum weakening considerably. The Rajkumar Santoshi-directed period drama received a strong boost during the Independence Day weekend, but its collections steadily declined through the first week. As the film moves into its second weekend, the sharp downshift has left it chasing key domestic and worldwide milestones.The film earned Rs 75 lakh nett in India on Day 8, marking its lowest single-day collection so far. The figure represents a 44.4 per cent drop from the previous day's Rs 1.35 crore. With this, its India nett collection has reached Rs 34.35 crore. The film was screened across 3,211 shows on its eighth day.In gross terms, Batwara 1947 has collected Rs 40.77 crore in India so far. Its overseas performance added Rs 50 lakh on Day 8, taking its overseas gross collection to Rs 8.25 crore. The film's worldwide gross now stands at Rs 49.02 crore.The film had entered Day 8 within touching distance of the Rs 35-crore mark in India but fell short by Rs 65 lakh. A stronger second weekend could help it cross the milestone before it attempts to move towards the Rs 40-crore mark. However, the latest decline underlines the challenge before the film as it heads into the crucial weekend period. Batwara 1947 is also less than Rs 1 crore away from crossing the Rs 50-crore mark worldwide. With its current worldwide gross at Rs 49.02 crore, the film needs another Rs 98 lakh to reach the milestone.The film faces competition from Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani-starrer Awarapan 2, which has entered its second week with a stronger box office trajectory. The sequel has continued to attract audiences in its second week, adding to the competitive landscape for Batwara 1947 during the weekend. Batwara 1947 opened with Rs 5.75 crore net on Day 1 and saw a significant jump over the Independence Day weekend. It collected Rs 13.50 crore on Day 2 and Rs 7.25 crore on Day 3. However, its collections dropped sharply after the weekend, with the film recording Rs 2.25 crore on Day 4, Rs 1.75 crore on Day 5, Rs 1.25 crore on Day 6 and Rs 1.35 crore on Day 7.Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Batwara 1947 is set against the backdrop of the Partition of India and explores its human cost through characters from different backgrounds caught amid political upheaval, displacement and personal loss.
