INDIE band Bastille have been forced to cancel a festival gig shortly before they were due on stage. Lead singer Dan Smith posted the disappointing update to his Instagram page, and admitted he had been battling a “serious vocal issue”. In a lengthy message posted in white text to a black background on Instagram the Pompeii hitmaker wrote: “A note to everyone coming to Wednesday’s show. “Hi everyone, it’s Dan here on behalf on behalf of the band. Pompeii hitmaker Dan told how he was ‘really gutted’ by the turn of events Credit: Getty The band were due to perform at SZIN Festival on Wednesday Credit: Getty – Contributor “I’m really gutted to have to let you know that due to quite a serious vocal issue I’m having, we’ve had to pull out of our upcoming show at SZIN Festival on Wednesday. “I’ve been struggling with a vocal issue which has made it pretty difficult to talk or sing recently. “I’ve been doing my best to manage the situation and my voice but I saw an ENT doctor and was advised that complete vocal rest is the only way to allow my vocal cords to heal properly and avoid further serious damage”. He apologised to fans and reassured them it wasn’t a decision he had “taken lightly”. Most read in Showbiz He added: “Anyone who knows me can probably imagine that having to be silent for nearly five days isn’t something I’m excited about but mainly, of course, I feel really terrible for anyone this has let down and affected by us having to cancel a show”. He thanked fans and rounded off with the words: “Massive apologies and loads of love”. Over on Reddit, fans were hugely sympathetic. One wrote: “Literally everyone would rather a few cancelled gigs in the short term over the risk of Dan never being able to sing again. Hope his recovery goes well!” A second put: “Yeah rest is the right thing to do. I’m going on Friday to Halifax and as much as I want the gig to go ahead, I don’t want Dan to put himself at risk by performing. “Hopefully the five days vocal rest helps him and he can still perform a decent amount this summer”. Back in 2016, the band was forced to cancel a New York show after Dan had “strained his voice”. Comment now
