It's been a while since we've heard from Barrie Lindsay, the Brooklyn-based artist who records as just plain Barrie. Barrie's last album was 2022's Barbara, and she hasn't put out any singles of her own since 2023's "Hard Candy," though she did collaborate with Hot Chip's Joe Goddard and contribute to a Margo Guryan tribute album in 2024. Today, she's back. Barrie's new single "Gloria" isn't a Them/Patti Smith cover or a Laura Branigan cover, though it has some of the same synthetic triumph as the latter song. Barrie's track starts out as a bright harpsichord workout before turning into buzzy, psychedelic synthpop. It's a very fun song, and Barrie says, "I’ve been working on this song for four years." Check it out below.
