There is speculation online, fairly strong and seemingly sound, that around 1TB data belonging to Bank of Baroda has been leaked. The leak has potentially exposed customer records, Aadhaar details and internal bank documents. Here are full details.Bank of Baroda's alleged 1TB data leak may have exposed customer information and internal documents. (Representative image created using AI)Bank of Baroda is likely in the middle of a data breach that could be among the biggest involving an Indian bank. A hacker claims to have leaked around 1TB of data taken out from the bank’s servers, and has put up online from where anyone can download it and analyse it. The alleged data dump includes customer records, banking information, internal documents, audit reports and compliance records. At the time of writing, Bank of Baroda has not officially confirmed the breach, while CERT-In and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) have also not issued a public statement verifying the claims. However, if the data is genuine — and it does seem fairly genuine — it could expose customers to phishing attacks, identity theft and financial fraud. So, what all customer information has been potentially leaked?Based on the sample documents and directory listings shared by cybersecurity researcher Srikanth Lakshmanan on X, the allegedly leaked data includes:Customer namesMobile phone numbersAadhaar numbersSavings and current account recordsLoan-related informationNetBanking user recordsNRI and corporate banking recordsCustomer support materialBranch and ATM-related recordsIn other words, if you are a Bank of Baroda customer, chances are that above mentioned details from your account are likely out in public in the 1TB data that is available for download, all neatly linked to your identity and name. Srikanth also claims that the exposed files include internal Bank of Baroda documents such as branch audit reports, loan appraisal documents, compliance records, vigilance investigation reports and customer application forms from multiple branches across the country. Meanwhile, there is no evidence so far that passwords, ATM PINs, UPI PINs or OTPs have been leaked. How does this impact Bank of Baroda customers?Even if login credentials are not part of the alleged leak, exposed personal and banking information could still be exploited by cybercriminals. One of the biggest risks is targeted phishing. Criminals with access to a customer's name, phone number, Aadhaar details or loan information could craft convincing SMS messages, emails or phone calls pretending to be from Bank of Baroda. These scams often attempt to trick customers into revealing passwords, OTPs or card details.Another concern is identity theft. If Aadhaar details and other personal information are indeed part of the leak, fraudsters could attempt to misuse them for fake loan applications, forged KYC documents or other financial fraud. The alleged leak could also help scammers to prepare for convincing scam calls, as attackers may already know details about a customer's banking relationship. The alleged data leak yet to be confirmed or acknowledged While cybersecurity researchers have shared screenshots, directory listings and sample files that they claim came from Bank of Baroda's systems, the full extent of the alleged breach has not been independently verified.Bank of Baroda has also not publicly confirmed that customer data has been compromised, and there has been no official confirmation from CERT-In or the RBI. Until more information is available, customers should remain cautious and be alert to phishing attempts.- EndsPublished By: Divya BhatiPublished On: Jul 27, 2026 12:54 IST
