With a diverse, queer cast of characters, and an entire act centering on the sapphic love story of Dame Aylin and Isobel, the game is endowed with LGBTQ+ themes, commentary on xenophobia and fascism, and questlines that delve headfirst into religious fundamentalism and bodily autonomy. Not only is it an award-winning modern classic, but that rich storytelling has seen Baldur's Gate 3 make over $1.2 billion in revenue. That's according to a new report from Alinea Analytics investigating the sales metrics and revenue of past GOTY winners, which found that Baldur's Gate 3 has sold 23.2 million copies across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC — with Steam holding an 80.6% chunk of the pie. In fact, 1% of all Steam players, or little under 200,000 people, have played for over 500 hours, and the game still brings in roughly 280–400,000 players every day. Go woke... go rich? Steam: 80.6% of copies sold PlayStation: 12.7% of copies sold Xbox: 6.8% of copies sold Elden Ring Has Made Over $2 Billion $1.2 billion and 23 million copies sold is an incredibly impressive metric, but Baldur's Gate 3 isn't the top-performing GOTY winner. That award goes to Elden Ring, yet another game entrenched in LGBTQ+ representation, with the central figure of the entire story being a god who possesses two distinctive bodies, blurring the lines of binary gender. Not to mention the optional queer relationship with Ranni, and Miquella choosing a male consort to anchor his rule. As per Alinea Analytics, Elden Ring has sold over 36.4 million copies across Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam, generating over $2 billion in revenue. However, the split between platforms isn't nearly as drastic, with PC accounting for 50% of sales, PlayStation for 35%, and Xbox for 15%. Its spin-off, Nightreign, even sold a further 7.8 million copies, making $282 million in revenue. Considering the game moved 4.7 million copies, that's a whole lot of physical sales.
