Baldur's Gate 3 Console Players Can Now Fish Published Oct 7, 2026, 4:00 PM EDT Sam Woods is TheGamer’s Senior Reporter. He’s been in games journalism since 2020 and has undertaken a variety of roles in that time. These have included roles such as SEO Editor, Managing Editor at DualShockers, and Global Head of Gaming, and he's also been seen on the BBC. He was promoted to the Senior Reporter position in 2025 following a series of high-quality reports and exclusives for TheGamer. Since 2020, Sam has written over 3,000 articles and specializes in telling the stories of the people behind the games. He’s interviewed the biggest game directors, some of the industry’s top talents, told the stories of how indie games came to be, and spoken to players about what really makes them tick. He’s also interviewed some of the world’s biggest musical artists to find out how the medium has inspired their work, and TV and Film actors about their roles in video game adaptations. He even hosted a PAX panel in 2021 and made a documentary in 2024 surrounding the creation of a Disney game. Alongside this, Sam focuses on breaking news. He got the scoop on Perfect Dark’s cancellation, provided context on some AI drama, and revealed that Lady Dimitrescu’s actress would love to step back into the character’s giant shoes. These articles have been picked up by the biggest gaming sites, including IGN, GameSpot, and PC Gamer. He also loves to dive into the numbers behind the games. Sam’s journey in games journalism has taken him all over the world. He’s covered Gamescom in Germany, Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, and Tokyo Game Show in Japan, each on three occasions. He’s been learning Japanese since 2024 with the intention of identifying and translating Japanese-language news and bringing it to English-language audiences first, something he’s done countless times. Sam’s first review was 2020’s Battletoads reboot, and he’s since reviewed games in The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and Pokemon franchises. Sign in to your TheGamer account Last week, Baldur's Gate 3 got some pretty meaty additions. Larian vetted, approved, and uploaded over 40 pieces of content, including an in-depth cheat menu and the ability to recruit many of the game's most interesting NPCs. Clearly not happy with such a wealth of new content for the three-year-old game, the studio just uploaded 17 more additions, including a full fishing feature. Baldur's Gate 3 Is Now A Cozy Game, Complete With Fishing Baldur's Gate 3 launched on August 3, 2023. Although Larian stopped releasing new content early last year, the company has continued to scour the net for the best user-created mods and upload them to consoles for PlayStation and Xbox players. Console players still don't have the same quantity available as PC players, with around 1,500 mods on console versus almost 20,000 on PC, but everything on console is officially Larian-approved. The latest drop includes 17 new pieces of content, including an increased maximum skill cap of 50 and, most excitingly, the ability to fish. To save you from scrolling through the entire list on your console, you can check everything added below: Ice Dice - Adds three new Ice-themed dice. Increase Skill Cap to 50 - Increases the maximum skill cap to 50. Longstrider/Feather Fall/Enhance Leap QoL - Transforms Longstrider, Feather Fall, and Enhanced Leap to 18m radius and affects allies only. Enemy Tacticians - Enhances over 850 NPC enemies with new abilities. This includes passives from classes, magic items, feats, and new powers. Use 5e Spells with Mystra's Spells - Removes duplicated spells from spell lists. Elixir of Experience - Adds an elixir that increases party member levels by one. Rebalance Racials - Rebalances the racial bonuses to "even the playing field and make the choice more interesting." Best in Party Skills - Automatically applies the highest relevant skill modifier from any active party member to the character performing a skill check. Creature Photomode Fix - Fixes some creatures not being able to be posed in photo mode. WitherLess Respec - Allows you to respec using a spell, without the need for Withers. Staves of the Forgotten - Adds 11 new staves. Succubus Subrace - Adds a succubus subrace for Tieflings, Elves, Half Elves, and Drow. The race can't wear clothing or armor but receives a range of buffs to offset this. Astarion's Graveyard Scene Extended - Adds additional shots to Astarion's graveyard scene to show animation details hidden by the original camera. Roah Moonglow Escapes - Roah Moonglow escapes the Abandoned Cistern instead of staying in combat. Embers Wardrobe: Trickster's Finery - Adds 17 new clothing items with fisuals for all tall races and body types. Follow Astarion: New Endgame Cutscene - Adds a new ending cutscene for Astarion. SimpleFishing - Adds a fishing rod that grants players a fishing skill. This is done with a d20 roll, and you can catch fish and "some things you probably don't want to pull out of the water." I've always said Baldur's Gate 3 needs some more cozy elements, and now we have them in the form of fishing.
