With the new season of Channel 4’s hit show well underway, and new judge Nigella Lawson already feeling like one of the family, the series has thrown another set of fresh ideas our way. Week three of the show was audience choice week, with an interactive element for the first time ever, not to mention bakers could also bring a friend or family member along to the tent – so there was a lot to contend with. For the showstopper challenge, our cake maestros had to create a ‘wearable’ edible good. Enter Essex-based baker Moyin, who went the slightly cheeky route of doing a ‘hat’. Essentially a well-decorated cake balanced atop a mannequin head – something Paul wryly pointed out as they dug in. However, this was when disaster struck, and just as he grabbed a slice to taste, the rest of the cake toppled over, smashing onto the table and floor to stunned silence. Nigella could not believe her eyes (Picture: Channel 4) Paul showed little remorse, however, quipping: ‘Yeah, well it needs to sit slightly lower on the head. It wouldn’t have wobbled as much.’ Although the execution left something to be desired, both Paul and Nigella had nothing but praise for the flavours of the one saved slice, dubbing it ‘delicious’ and ‘sensational’. In the end, Paul reiterated that ‘I didn’t think you met the brief. I think it needed to look more like a hat than a cake. But well done.’ People on social media, however, are outraged on Moyin’s behalf, believing that he deserved at least some sort of apology from the famed breadmaker. Everyone else was stunned into silence… except Paul (Picture: Channel 4) ‘Paul needs to apologise for destroying the cake,’ Mrs S declared on X. Complete goon,’ XL Manlet reflected. ‘Thought the judges could’ve been more apologetic about the cake falling tbh,’ CatherineM suggested more generously. While it’s all hands on deck over the accidental (or not so accidental) cake fall, there was another notable moment in Tuesday night’s episode when talk turned to throuples. Paul blamed Moyin Odeniran for the cake falling (Picture: Channel 4) At another point in the episode, they got talking about throuples (Picture: Channel 4) Known for its innuendo-filled humour, Paul took the task to heart this week when he awkwardly joked about him and his fellow judge Nigella being in a ‘throuple’ with his wife, Melissa Spalding. When one of the contestants, Gabe, brought on one of his partners, Ellis, to the show, he explained to the judges that he has another partner, Tyler, and the three call themselves a ‘throuple boyband’. Paul then joked: ‘I have a TV partner, and I have a home partner.’ Gabe then needled: ‘Oh so you’re in one as well, really?’ to which Nigella quickly replied: ‘Erm well… not quite’. The whole interaction cracked viewers up. ‘Paul’s face at the throuple,’ Dan said, while Bogan enjoyed ‘Paul’s mind being blown by the concept of a throuple’.
