EXCLUSIVE: For the first time since her big breakout moment with Baby Reindeer, the darkly comedic stalker thriller turned water cooler phenomenon, Jessica Gunning is returning to Netflix. Gunning is one of the four leads of the streamer’s Feral, a darkly comedic thriller series based on the 1987 novel by Shirley Conran, sources tell Deadline. Reps for Netflix declined to comment. In the series, four very different women learn to survive on a lethal tropical island after their mining exec husbands are kidnapped. The question is, can they put aside their differences, their self-doubts and their vanities to stay alive? Sources said Gunning plays Annie, a quietly dutiful wife who has sacrificed her ambitions to raise four sons under her domineering husband, Duncan. Watch on Deadline Jude Mack is the show’s creator. Emma Freeman (Interview with the Vampire, Stateless) is directing, with Oscar nominee Liza Marshall (Hamnet, Mary & George) producing alongside Laurie Borg (Foundation, Industry). Gunning earned essentially every top honor one can — including an Emmy, Golden Globe, BAFTA TV Award, Actor Award, Critics’ Choice Award and Independent Spirit Award — for her work in Baby Reindeer, which premiered on Netflix in April 2024, emerging organically through word of mouth as one of their most memorable buzz titles in recent memory. In the show from Richard Gadd, she plays Martha, a vulnerable and deeply troubled woman who becomes fixated on Gadd’s struggling bartender/comedian, Donny Dunn. With heat on her following her turn in the miniseries, Gunning took on films including Steven Soderbergh’s The Christophers, Sunny Dancer opposite Bella Ramsey and The Magic Faraway Tree. Upcoming, she’ll be seen in both the Marc Forster film Anxious People and the Apple TV series Berlin Noir. She is repped by Markham, Froggatt and Irwin, UTA, and Untitled. Best known as an actor, Mack can currently be seen in Ted Lasso Season 4. Previously, they put in turns in everything from Apple’s Prime Target to Mickey 17, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and the Netflix action comedy Back in Action. Behind the scenes, Mack previously co-created and starred in Amicable, an Avalon comedy pilot for BBC Three, adapted from plays developed at the Edinburgh Fringe. They are repped by Independent Talent Group, Casarotto Ramsay & Associates and Granderson Des Rochers. Director Freeman is repped by Cameron’s Management, Mgmt Entertainment and CAA.
