A baby moose trotted past passengers unloading their bags curbside at Anchorage airport, then stopped near the Alaska Airlines check-in doors. A man simply walked toward it, waved an arm, shooed it away getting it to turn around. The man sharing the video, describes the animal as trying to board an Alaska Airlines flight. If only! It walks past cars and travelers before it pausing near the terminal entrance – door 1 for Air Canada, Alaska Airlines and American. The animal passes close to an open SUV hatch as passengers handle their bags. Another traveler is standing outside the terminal with suitcases when the moose stops nearby. A man approaches from the roadway and the calf heads back along the sidewalk. There’s a potentially sad explanation for why it’s alone. A commenter who says he’s the one that shooed it away reports airport employees told him the calf’s mother had been hit and killed by a vehicle a few days earlier. Anchorage airport regularly reminds travelers about moose around its roads and parking areas. I’ve covered an Alaska Airlines flight delayed by a seal on the runway, polar bears on an Alaska airport taxiway, and a raccoon helping itself to candy at a Philadelphia airport shop. The raccoon at least knew what it wanted. Topics on this page
