Axis: Sova Announce New Album Flowerage: Hear “Blow Up”

"Blow Up" rips. Axis: Sova's new song out today, the opening track and lead single from new album Flowerage, is technically a post-punk song, but it'll almost certainly elicit a "hell yeah" from those who love to rock. Brett Sova, Jeremy Freeze, and Josh Johannpeter lock into a propulsive rhythm and pile on the riffs, like Wire or Mission Of Burma if they were embracing the classic rock playbook rather than defying it. There may even be a whiff of Rush in the mix, but not at the expense of the anxious, urgent energy you'd expect from, say, Devo. "No flash, no flash/ Photography!" Sova bellows on the chorus. "Trigger, trigger/ Warning, warning."It portends good things for Flowerage, which will arrive in October through Ty Segall's Drag City imprint GOD? Records.
