Sign in to your XDA account For a long time, a projector was something you set up for a movie night and then packed away. Brighter laser light sources and better image processing have changed that, and in some homes a projector is now a realistic alternative to a large TV. AWOL Vision is taking part in Fall Prime Day on October 6 and 7, with deals across its two main projector lines: the ultra-short-throw Aetherion series and the long-throw Valerion series. The three models in focus are the Aetherion Max, the Valerion Max, and the Valerion Pro 2. They have a lot in common under the hood, but they are designed for different rooms and viewers. Knowing where you plan to put one will narrow the choice quickly. What RGB triple-laser projection means All three projectors use an RGB triple-laser light source. Instead of starting with a single light source and filtering it to produce colors, a triple-laser design uses separate red, green, and blue lasers. This gives the projector a wider range of colors to work with, and AWOL Vision rates each of these models at 110% of the Rec.2020 color space. Rec.2020 is the color standard defined for UHD video, and most consumer displays cover only part of it. Ultra-short throw or long throw? This is the first decision to make, and it depends mostly on your room. An ultra-short-throw (UST) projector sits close to the wall and projects upward, avoiding ceiling mounts and long cable runs. That makes it a natural fit for living rooms used for everyday TV and movie nights. A long-throw projector sits farther from the screen, often on a ceiling mount. It takes more planning but offers flexible image sizing and placement, making it well suited to dedicated home theaters. In AWOL Vision's lineup, the Aetherion series covers UST and the Valerion series covers long throw. AWOL Vision Aetherion Max AWOL Vision Aetherion Max Brand AWOL Vision Native Resolution 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) Connectivity Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, 3 x HDMI 2.1, 1 x DisplayPort, 1 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB 2.1, Rthernet Throw Ratio 0.2:1 HDR Dolby Vision, IMAX enhanced Projection Method 4K DLP, RGB triple laser, ultra short throw The AWOL Vision Aetherion Max is an ultra-short-throw 4K projector that sits a few inches from the wall, which makes it a practical fit for living rooms used for everyday viewing. Its RGB triple-laser light source is rated at 3,300 ISO lumens, and PixelLock technology keeps 4K detail sharp at image sizes up to 200 inches. Support for Dolby Vision, IMAX Enhanced, VRR and ALLM covers films, sports and gaming. The Aetherion Max is AWOL's flagship UST projector, designed for bright living rooms, larger screens, and shared viewing. It's rated at 3,300 ISO lumens, which helps in rooms where you can't fully block out daylight. Its main technical feature is PixelLock, AWOL Vision's own technology to keep pixel alignment precise so that 4K detail stays sharp from edge to edge at image sizes up to 200 inches. At very large sizes, small alignment errors are easier to spot, particularly toward the corners of the screen, so this is aimed at a real problem with big UST images. Credit: AWOL Vision For contrast, the Aetherion Max has a 6,000:1 native contrast ratio and Enhanced Black Level (EBL) processing for darker scenes. It supports Dolby Vision and IMAX Enhanced, so compatible films and shows can use their HDR information. Gamers get a solid set of features, too. VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) lets the display match the frame rate a console or PC is producing, which reduces tearing and stutter. ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) switches the projector into low-latency mode automatically when a game starts. AWOL quotes 1ms-class latency, so it's fast enough for sports and fast-paced games as well as movies. For Fall Prime Day, the Aetherion Max is $3,584, reduced from $4,499 (20% off). AWOL Vision Valerion Max AWOL Vision Valerion Max Brand AWOL Vision Native Resolution 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) via pixel shift Connectivity 2 x HDMI 2.1, 1 x HDMI 2.0 with eARC, optical and 3.5 mm audio outputs, 2 x USB, Ethernet Throw Ratio 0.9 to 1.5:1 HDR Dolby Vision, HDR10+, IMAX enhanced Projection Method Single-chip DLP, RGB triple laser, long throw The Valerion Max is AWOL Vision's flagship long-throw 4K projector, designed for dedicated home theaters. Its RGB triple-laser light source is rated at 3,500 ISO lumens and can produce images up to 300 inches. The NoirScene Ultimate Black System pairs a six-level iris with EBL technology for deeper blacks in dark scenes. A 0.9 to 1.5:1 optical zoom and ±105% vertical lens shift make installation more flexible. The Valerion Max is AWOL Vision's flagship long-throw model, aimed at dedicated home theatres and viewers who care most about picture performance. It's rated at 3,500 ISO lumens and can produce an image of up to 300 inches. Black levels get the most attention here. AWOL's NoirScene Ultimate Black System combines a six-level precise iris with EBL technology. An iris adjusts how much light reaches the screen depending on the scene, so dark scenes can look darker without dimming bright ones. AWOL Vision quotes up to 50,000:1 viewing contrast. That's a different measurement from the Aetherion Max's native contrast figure, so it's best not to compare the two numbers directly. Credit: AWOL Vision Dynamic Tone Mapping adjusts HDR content scene by scene to suit what the projector can display, which helps keep bright highlights and shadow detail from being clipped. Installation is flexible. A 0.9 to 1.5:1 optical zoom means you can place the projector at a range of distances from the screen and still fill it, and ±105% vertical lens shift lets you move the image up or down without tilting the projector or relying on digital keystone correction, which can soften the picture. For Fall Prime Day, the Valerion Max is $3,129, reduced from $3,999 (22% off). AWOL Vision is also offering two bundles: the Valerion Max with 150-inch PureVision fixed-frame screen, ceiling mount, and 12m HDMI cable for $3,699, reduced from $5,796 (36% off), and the Valerion Max with ThunderBeat 4.1.2 sound system and 150-inch PureVision motorized screen for $4,899, reduced from $7,195 (32% off). AWOL Vision Valerion Pro 2 AWOL Vision Valerion Pro 2 Brand AWOL Vision Native Resolution 4K via pixel shifting Connectivity 2 x HDMI 2.1, 1 x HDMI 2.0 with eARC, USB 3.1, USB 2.0, SPDIF, Ethernet, Wi-Fi Throw Ratio 0.9 to 1.5:1 HDR HDR10+, HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG, IMAX enhanced Projection Method Triple lasr DLP, long throw The AWOL Vision Valerion Pro 2 is a long-throw 4K projector for home theater setups. Its RGB triple-laser light source is rated at 3,000 ISO lumens and covers 110% of the Rec.2020 color space, with support for Dolby Vision, IMAX Enhanced and Dynamic Tone Mapping. Gamers can switch to 1080p/240Hz for 4ms input lag, and a 0.9 to 1.5:1 optical zoom gives you more choice over where the projector sits. The Valerion Pro 2 uses the same RGB triple-laser approach in a slightly less demanding package. It's rated at 3,000 ISO lumens with 110% Rec.2020 coverage and up to 15,000:1 contrast using EBL Mode. It keeps the 0.9 to 1.5:1 optical zoom, so placement is still flexible, and it supports Dolby Vision, IMAX Enhanced, and Dynamic Tone Mapping. It doesn't have the Valerion Max's NoirScene system, and its brightness and contrast figures are lower, which is the main trade-off. Credit: AWOL Vision The Pro 2 does stand out for gaming. AWOL Vision quotes 4ms input lag at 1080p/240Hz, so you can drop to 1080p for fast competitive games that benefit from a high refresh rate and switch to 4K for films and slower titles. For Fall Prime Day, the Valerion Pro 2 is $1,994, reduced from $2,999 (34% off). The Valerion Pro 2 bundle with a 120-inch PureVision fixed-frame anti-speckle screen and ThunderBeat 4.1.2 sound system is $2,999, down from $4,697 (36% off). What to check before you buy A projector's performance depends heavily on the room, so it's worth doing some homework first. Measure the distance from where the projector will sit to the wall, and check the ceiling height if you're considering a long-throw model on a mount. And think about how much daylight gets into the room at the times you usually watch because ambient light affects any projector. The screen matters, too: a proper screen generally gives a cleaner, more consistent image, which is why several AWOL Vision bundles include PureVision screens.
