THIS is the moment a politician joined a Zoom meeting from her bathroom with her underwear drying in full view. Whoever said politics is in the toilet might be onto something after New Zealand councillor Jo Galer made the eyebrow-raising decision to join a live city council meeting directly from her bathroom. At the start of the Monday morning meeting, Mayor Sophie Barker announced that two councillors would be joining online. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! One attendee let out a taken-aback chuckle when Galer first appeared on the boardroom screen. Mayor Barker – assuming she had made an honest mistake about her location – stepped in to help. The meeting was for the City of Dunedin in New Zealand’s South Island Credit: Alamy Galer was born in Dunedin Credit: Gallo Images – Getty She said: “You might want to move your camera.” To which a blasé Galer responded: “Why where is it?” Mayor Barker said: “We can see your washing Awkwardly, Galer said: “Umm ok… can you see me?” Most read in The Sun Mayor Barker said they could indeed see her and said she was “only suggesting”. The councillor then shrugged and replied: “That’s great. You can see my washing, you can see me. That is no problem.” Unfazed by the interaction Galer then sprung into a her speech about local government reform, focusing on her key messaging of “frivolous” council spending. As Galer continued to talk about potential savings for ratepayers, a dark shadow appeared behind a frosted glass door – possibly the shower door, possibly a door to another room. At one point, a hand could be seen reaching towards the frosty barrier before being pulled back, as if the person realised they were about to feature on a council meeting. The toe- curling meeting has racked up nearly 2000 views on YouTube. The bathroom blunder was not the only drama from the meeting as before Galer had even joined the call, one Councillor was kicked out for disorderly conduct. The meet has sparked a fierce debate over what is considered Zoom etiquette. Comment now
