The MCU timeline has been tackling alternative realities and variants since Phase 4, as the Multiverse Saga is nearing its end. While Earth's Mightiest Heroes haven't been together since Avengers: Endgame, that is about to change as of this December. New synopsis details have officially been revealed on Fandango for the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday movie. Check it out below: "Universes collide and the Multiverse Saga begins its final chapter in Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday. Beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and ultimately face an existential threat unlike anything they've ever encountered. This epic film will lay the foundation for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. See it in Infinity Vision, the way it's meant to be seen, on bigger, brighter and more immersive screens." After having played Tony Stark for three phases, Robert Downey Jr. is making his return to the franchise, but with a massive twist. The upcoming MCU movie will see him take on the role of Doctor Doom, one of the most powerful Marvel foes in the entire comics canon. The iconic Marvel villain first appeared at the end of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, where he was seen interacting with Reed Richards and Sue Storm's son, Franklin. While his face is never seen, Downey Jr. was the one in the cloak, according to Vanessa Kirby, who shared the following in 2025: Vanessa Kirby: Yeah! Robert’s never not been on set. He’s always there. He is our leader. We call him our Godfather. He’s looked after us. It’s such a joy working with the Russos and him, because they’ve had such deep collaboration for so long. And it’s been amazing being pregnant and working on “Avengers.” I felt so inspired and so relieved that I’ve been so taken care of. It’s been a really beautiful journey. Robert is just doing incredible work. I’m so excited. While the Fantastic Four will be part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, there are still many characters that have yet to be announced for the film. However, another group that will be part of the story is the X-Men, as several of the Fox actors are reprising their roles in the major ensemble entry. More to come... Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18.
