‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Has Already Made $50 Million in Pre-Sales, Three Months Before Release

Doomsday typically indicates disaster, but for Marvel Studios that term is forecasting booming box office. Disney reports that the next entry in the sprawling Marvel Cinematic Universe “Avengers: Doomsday,” has already made $50 million in domestic pre-sales, three months before the movie’s Dec. 18 release date. The studio reported that more than 70% of those pre-sales are for Infinity Vision tickets, emphasizing the audience’s appetite to see for premium large format screens. “Infinity Vision” is a new certification for premium large format theaters, which Disney unveiled at CinemaCon, touted as delivering “the biggest, brightest and most immersive cinematic experiences” for moviegoers. The pre-sale figures for “Doomsday” were announced Wednesday by Walt Disney Company senior executive VP & Chief Financial Officer, Hugh Johnston, at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference. Popular on Variety Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the movie sees a massive assembly of Marvel superheroes, including the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts and the original “X-Men,” teaming up to face their most formidable foe yet: Victor Von Doom. Robert Downey Jr. returns to play the MCU new Big Bad, after Tony Stark/Iron Man’s death at the end of “Avengers: Endgame.” In addition to Robert Downey Jr. returning, Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers/Captain America after he traveled back in time and stepped away from his superhero duties in “Endgame.” Chris Hemsworth also reprises his role as Thor, alongside Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi. “Doomsday” also marks the official MCU debut for several of Fox’s past “X-Men” stars after Disney acquired the studio. Patrick Stewart is back as Prof. Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen is Magneto, James Marsden is Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer is Beast, Rebecca Romijn is Mystique, Alan Cumming is Nightcrawler and Channing Tatum is Gambit. The “Fantastic Four: First Steps” stars, comprised of Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing are back for “Doomsday,” as are the “Thunderbolts” cast, including Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent and Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost. Ahead of the film’s release, Marvel has also launched “Countdown to Avengers: Doomsday Official Podcast.” The podcast covers five films from the Infinity Saga: “The Avengers” (the subject of the podcast’s Aug. 27 debut episode); “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (Sept. 3); “Captain America: Civil War” (Sept. 10); “Avengers: Infinity War” (Sept. 17); and “Avengers: Endgame” (Sept. 24). All five films are available to stream on Disney+. The fifth episode of the podcast will coincide with the Sept. 25, 2026, re-release of “Avengers Endgame: Encore” in theaters.
