Avatar: The Last Airbender has a new Korra voice actor, and she is a great choice. In recent years, many Avatar: The Last Airbender movies and shows have expanded the franchise in a big way. Once, only the original show's three seasons existed, and that was followed by the relatively short four-season run of The Legend of Korra. However, be it through Netflix's live-action adaptations, Avatar Studios' first feature film, or the ongoing Avatar: Seven Havens, the franchise is entering a new era of storytelling. Avatar: Seven Havens embodies that better than most projects, with the show quite literally being set in a new era, over 200 years beyond The Legend of Korra. Centered on dual-Avatars Pavi and Nisha, the show explores the aftermath of Korra's time as the Avatar, where it is believed the latter caused a deadly cataclysm, thus becoming known as a destroyer, not a savior. Naturally, Korra's role in Avatar: Seven Havens is a big one, as her successors try to figure out what happened to the world audiences once knew. In recent episodes, this has led to Korra appearing directly in the show, with flashbacks to the cataclysm hinting at what happened to both the audience and Pavi and Nisha. Briefly, Korra's voice was heard, though with a new voice actor in the role. In all four seasons of The Legend of Korra, the titular hero was voiced by Janet Varney. However, in Avatar: Seven Havens, Korra is voiced by Cia Court. This has caused some discussion online, particularly from those not fond of recasts, but Korra's new voice actor in The Last Airbender franchise is excellent. Cia Court Is The Ideal Actor To Take Over As Avatar's Korra Nickelodeon / Courtesy: Everett Collection For many reasons, Cia Court is a great voice actor to portray Korra. Chief among them is her vast voice-acting experience, particularly in the video game medium. Video games offer voice actors the chance to express a range of emotions, often paired with mimicking strenuous activities like fighting moves, running, climbing, and more. Naturally, this gives Court a wealth of experience in the industry, which will undoubtedly suit a character like Korra perfectly. Beyond that, Court is also at a mature age to properly fit an older Korra. As a teenager in The Legend of Korra, the character was voiced by then-mid-30s Janet Varney. In Avatar: Seven Havens, Korra's role is set at least a few decades beyond that, further supporting why Court should have taken over the role. Finally, Varney herself has gone on record in the past to state that she will not be voicing Korra again, as she believes the character should be voiced by a person of color. As many now know, the world of The Last Airbender is based primarily on Eastern countries or tribal groups like the Inuit people. This explains Varney's preference for a character set in that world to be voiced by someone who is not white, so as to more closely represent the in-universe characters and the real peoples they were based on. In Court's case, she is of Japanese and Panamanian descent. For all of these reasons, it becomes clear that Cia Court is the perfect choice to voice Korra in Avatar: Seven Havens. Korra's Role In Avatar: Seven Havens Explained As alluded to, Korra's role in Avatar: Seven Havens is the most interesting in the entire show. Despite ending her own show as a true Avatar and a savior in the eyes of humanity, the sequel depicts her as a destroyer. The people of the Seven Havens despise Korra and, by extension, the Avatar, and actively fear the return of the master of all four elements. The reason for this was Korra's role in supposedly destroying the world during the cataclysm, which was glimpsed via Court's voice-acting debut in the show. That said, there is almost certainly more to Korra's past. It is yet to be revealed what exactly the cataclysm that destroyed the world was, how it was caused, and specifically what role Korra played in these events. A prominent theory about Avatar: Seven Havens is that Korra will be revealed as a savior after all, and that her role in causing the cataclysm was essential for the survival of humanity. Indeed, Court herself teased as much when speaking out about her role as Avatar Korra, simply asking, "But is she really as bad as people think she is?" Hopefully, Avatar: Seven Havens will answer exactly that, with Court exhibiting the heroic side of Korra we all know is there.
