Sign in to your TheGamer account November 19, 2026, might well end up setting records when it comes to the number of people calling in sick to work because they want to stay home and play GTA 6. The trick is to try and not make it too obvious, and the Australian government wants to make sure its citizens know all of the official avenues they can take to get November 19 off work. Rockstar Australia’s Fair Work Ombudsman floated the hypothetical scenario on Instagram that GTA 6 is releasing tomorrow, but you’re all out of paid leave. Should that be the case for you when GTA 6 does arrive, the government arm has suggested four ways you can get unpaid leave for the day to make sure you don’t suffer from the biggest bout of FOMO in video game history. “In some situations, you have a specific right to unpaid leave under the National Employment Standards,” slide two of Fair Work’s GTA 6 post reads. “The question to ask yourself when it comes to unpaid leave is: Why do I need the time off?” Option number one actually provides up to two days of unpaid leave: Someone you care for needs you. In this instance, the leave is tied to a sick or injured loved one needing your help. The post admits that this first example probably doesn’t apply. Unless you can really sell just how much GTA 6 means to you, although even then, it won’t technically need you to take time off to care for it. Options two and three are also unlikely to be all that helpful. If you are engaged in a voluntary emergency management activity, then you can request unpaid leave for community service reasons. You’re also entitled to a whole year of unpaid leave if you’re having a child. That one relies on your new baby arriving within the next five weeks, so you really needed to have planned ahead to make that one play in your favor. There Is Some Real Advice In Here It’s the fourth and final point that Australians who want the day off to play GTA 6 can legitimately use, and it’s a fairly simple solution - just ask for it. There is no limit on the amount of unpaid leave you’re entitled to in Australia. You don’t even need to explicitly say you want the day off to play GTA 6. The reason can, apparently, be nothing more than you’ve run out of annual leave, and you need an additional day off unpaid. The success of that method hinges on what your employer says when you ask for it, though. The post is just a little bit of fun with the hope that it will go viral and, well, mission accomplished. That said, I’m sure there will already be thousands of people around the world trying to figure out how they’re going to get off work on November 19. Fair Work’s post, whether satirical or not, may have given some of those people the idea to simply ask for the day off and see what happens.
