The United States wants to rebuild its domestic uranium supply chain, and one newly listed company believes it can help close the gap. Eagle Nuclear Energy Corp. has stepped into the spotlight with control of what it describes as the country’s largest conventional measured and indicated uranium deposit, positioning itself as Washington prioritizes domestic nuclear fuel production. The shift comes as the US relies on imported uranium to power the world’s largest fleet of nuclear reactors. Federal efforts to reduce that dependence have increased interest in companies developing American uranium assets, particularly those with projects that can move toward production over the coming years. Advancing Aurora project Eagle Nuclear’s flagship Aurora Uranium Project sits along the Oregon-Nevada border. The company says the deposit contains 32.75 million pounds of indicated uranium resources and another 4.98 million pounds in the inferred category under the S-K 1300 reporting standard. Attention now turns to proving the project can support future mining operations. Eagle has filed permit applications for a planned pre-feasibility drilling campaign that includes 47 drill holes covering roughly 27,000 feet. Federal and state approvals remain pending before drilling can begin. The company expects to complete the pre-feasibility study during the second half of 2027. To support that effort, Eagle recently expanded its technical team by adding Yukuskokon Professional Services while broadening existing partnerships with BBA USA and SLR International for engineering, resource evaluation and permitting work. Financially, Eagle enters the next phase with a relatively strong balance sheet for a pre-revenue developer. The company reported about $28 million in cash and no interest-bearing debt in its second-quarter 2026 filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Domestic supply priority Washington’s renewed focus on uranium has strengthened the outlook for domestic resource developers. Although nuclear energy supplies roughly one-fifth of US electricity generation, the country produces only a small share of the uranium consumed by its reactors. That imbalance has become a national security concern. Federal policymakers have added uranium to the US critical minerals list while taking steps to reduce reliance on Russian nuclear fuel and expand domestic conversion and enrichment capacity. Demand also continues to rise. Utilities are securing long-term uranium supplies as governments plan new nuclear reactors, and growing electricity needs from AI data centers have added fresh pressure on reliable baseload power generation. Those trends have supported uranium prices and renewed investor interest across the sector. Milestones ahead Several key milestones will determine how quickly Eagle advances Aurora. Permit approvals remain the immediate hurdle before drilling can begin. Results from that program will shape the project’s pre-feasibility study and provide a clearer picture of its economic potential. Eagle also holds exclusive rights to a proprietary small modular reactor technology, giving it exposure beyond uranium production. That combination links the company to two areas receiving increased attention from policymakers and the nuclear industry. Like every uranium developer, Eagle still faces permitting, technical, and financing risks before Aurora could become an operating mine. Even so, the project enters the next stage as the United States searches for reliable domestic uranium supplies, placing its progress under closer industry scrutiny.
